.....because it seems america believes they are. In my soc class today it was brought up talkingabout countercultures of america. KKK, NeoNazi, Nazi, Al Queda and so on was named and then the BPP....i was angered by this, but instead of being militantn-word in class i kept it under wraps.....does anybody else feel they are similar?

You should have spoke up...school breakfasts? fighting for equality?

IMO...NO...
They were a group of ppl who wanted equal rights for black...by any means necessary...
the KKK were all about getting rid of anyone who wasn't white...

The KKK is a xenophobic organization focused on alienating people of other races.

The Black Panthers are an organization focused on uniting communities of similar backgrounds against those who attempt to tread on them.

They can be comparable as organizations that are of predominately one race, but that's pretty much it. The KKK took part in random acts of violence, theblack panthers used violence as a way to respond to acts they saw unfit.

Cut that out. The New BPP (which IS NOT affiliated with them and should never be) is probably what they meant. The OG Panthers were providing for theircommunity what the local, state and federal wouldn't (clothing drives, breakfast before school, fighting for equal rights, keeping drugs out theneighborhood etc.). I wish I was in that class so I could have said something. Stop being passive.

Not at all. The BPP was formed to protect the African American community. They didn't go out killing people of different races.

Preposterous. PPL who ignorantly think this need to be educated on what the Black Panthers stood for and the reason they were created in the first place.

No similarity to the KKK on any other radical organization/faction other than them both being a group.

I'm sure a handful of other NTers will drop knowledge. How ya prof let that %%%% slide in class? I would've said something if I was in there. I'minsulted they just grouping %%%% like together in a college class

BPP seeks to empower blacks.

KKK seeks to degrade blacks.

Totally different.

not at all...

1) We want freedom. We want power to determine the destiny of our Black Community.

2) We want full employment for our people.

3) We want an end to the robbery by the capitalists of our Black Community.

4) We want decent housing, fit for shelter of human beings.

5) We want education for our people that exposes the true nature of this decadent American society. We want education that teaches us our true history and ourrole in present day society.

6) We want all Black men to be exempt from military service.

7) We want an immediate end to POLICE BRUTALITY and MURDER of Black people.

We want freedom for all Black men held in federal, state, county and city prisons and jails.

9) We want all Black people when brought to trial to be tried in court by a jury of their peer group or people from their Black communities, as defined by theConstitution of the United States.

10) We want land, bread, housing, education, clothing, justice and peace. And as our major political objective, a United Nations-supervised plebiscite to beheld throughout the Black colony in which only Black colonial subjects will be allowed to participate, for the purpose of determining the will of Black peopleas to their national destiny.

what about any of that is the same as the KKK?

you don't even have to read...let any person w/common sense watch a decent documentary on the Panthers and they would see what they are about

i do remember once seeing pictures of members of the BPP standing around the dead bodies of white males as they hung from trees, so I'd have to say yes.

Could someone please lock this thread? It's obvious that the original poster is severely misinformed, and with all due respect, it would be ineverybody's best interest if we could do without this type of pervasive ignorance.

How is the OP misinformed? or are you saying the BPP is no different than Nazis and the KKK?

Also you know this won't be locked and NT isn't about what's in our best interest

I wanted to say something BADLY....but i didn't yet now I think about it I shouldve. "By any means necessary" meant nothing. One group who wantedethnic cleansing, the other wanted ethnic equality....YOU CANT COMPARE. One group lynched, disenfranchised, and terrorized while another helped communities, and protect the people "by any means necessary"....huge differences

basically
and for errybody sayin he shouldve spoke up maybe dude jus didnt have enough points to support his argument so he just left it alone. that doesnt necessarilymake him passive or w/e

listen... there's a difference between the og black panthers and the new black panthers- the og's are still here but there's another radical groupthat call themselves the new black panthers - AND THEY CAN BE COMPARED TO KKK, ETC. they call for their own land to be ruled by them and extermination of allnon-blacks.
