As intelligence increases, does happiness decrease?

....do yo mean that the gene is reccesive...or they just dont reproduce?

They just don't reproduce. If you notice, people of socioeconomic status and less educated people tend to have A LOT of children. Intelligent people tend to engage in behaviors that defy evolutionary "traditions". Eg. being a night owl
Or getting married later in life.
Damn, time to sell my sperm to them anonymous donor clinics before it's too late. Store my product at a sperm bank too.

Not a bad idea because there was a study that came out saying that the older the father is, the more incidence of Alzheimers.

So I guess men have a "clock" too.

I'm unwilling to have children of my own, if it weren't for social and maternal pressures I probably wouldn't. I do however want to adopt and this type of thinking is unnatural. The essence of being alive is that innate instinct to reproduce and propagate our genes.

A study just came out after studying over a million data points that shows that the more creative you are, the more likely you are to have a mental illness of some sort...however they define that.

www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2012-10/ki-lbc101612.php

I think of mad-scientists and savants etc. when I read this.

That link you posted is filled with inaccurate generalizations

From the actual study:
"This Swedish total population study suggests, except for an increase in bipolar disorder, that individuals with overall creative professions are not more likely than controls to suffer from psychiatric disorders in general."

The first study they conducted found some significant results. This one... not so much
But that EurekAlert write up is so misleading it's ridiculous

Honestly sometimes I hate being smart especially when talking to a chick .Im a bit to brainy and my wits a bit advanced .So I either don't say much or I dumb myself down and I end up being bored of the girl in a week .I try to empathetic with people but I end up being detached and just aloof .I try very hard tough but its rough

I think as you become more intelligent and therefore more aware you start to question the nature of reality and the artificial reality around you. This typically leads to a stage of extreme pain and general dissatisfaction with the superficial ideas of happiness you believed to be the cure for everything. The next stage is self discovery and the power that you have to actually effect your reality field which typically leads to the journey of TRUE knowledge and therefore TRUE happiness. The key to all of this is to remember that by not applying the knowledge you gain throughout life to achieve a goal or aim that knowledge you acquired means nothing and your appetite for inner peace will never be satiated. True happiness is living life with a definite purpose and following the path of achieving that goal. It has to be your purpose though and not one given to you by an outside influence. Ignorance is NEVER bliss because you never even touch the shores of your unlimited potential and its a waste of your unique talents that you will never discover because your mind is closed and therefore all information is filtered through all of your biases. Have a blessed day
^Great post here.

How are we defining 'intelligence'? Being good at math and science, or what? I mean we're talking about people being intelligent, yet unhappy. But if you were really that intelligent, wouldn't you adopt an optimal view of the world in which you're generally happy with your life? If I was gonna devise a robot to simulate a human, I would wire it so that it's always content with life and things out of its control. So why wouldn't I do the same for myself?

Maybe the better term to use here is 'aware'.. the first thing the aware person does, is fully embrace the realization that we're all going to die with no exceptions. The second thing the aware person will do is realize that in light of the first fact, the only sensible thing to do is disregard the beliefs other people have imposed on them and set about making their own path in life. That's really the only way to be truly happy.

true story.

Sounds like the "girls don't like me cuz I'm a nice guy" excuse...

Naw, kinfoe ... problems stem from something else.

Funny you mention that.

I heard there was something that said stumbling over words was indicative of having too BIG of a vocabulary. Its like knowing theres a better word out there but not being able to recall it at the moment.
Link to this report/study?

The nice guy excuse is a MAJOR excuse.

I even hate how that way of thinking even happened. Girls don't like you because you're nice. They don't like you because you're weird or something eise.

Elaborate FutureMD.

I think on some level, the more you know takes away from the intrigue, fear, or bliss of an idea. Sometimes I truly feel like a tortured genius, but then I remember I actually know nothing. As far as we know knowledge is infinite.

The fact that you're aware of how little you know, but how much more you know relatively is what separates you.

...and thats depressing.

Look up the Dunning-Kruger Effect.

Essentially "dumb" people don't know that they don't know anything. Thats just really incredible when you think about it.

I never dumb myself down for chicks, I hold my ground. They get upset when it seems i'm speaking over them, but they'll get over it.

Stupid people are an annoyance though. They have no idea that they are stupid and will never concede that they don't know anything so they have no reason to acquire more knowledge like the rest of us who understand that we truly know nothing.
"Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know."
~ Ernest Hemingway

ONe of my favorites quotes.

Knowledge, intelligence and being smart have to be distinguished as well defined. But indeed the concept is true, like much smarter people then me have validated this statement from several approaches. But even is these knowledgeable men (Nietzsche, Schopenhauer etc.) did come up with theories related to this concept, were able to come up with solutions, that would help surpass the anxiety and depression caused by knowledge. (except for Nietzsche who ended up becoming mad, but then again I don't think the solution he proposed is fully acceptable as a full solution)

Nietzsche just kept it real though. Dude was like... SURPRISE! none of this matters even if you think it does so the only way to get by is to try and fake it. Good look trying to forget what I just told you.
