Assuming the baby is healthy, how much paternity leave should a man get?

First of all, I think Mike Francesa's stance is moronic. I don't know if he's trying to go the shock-jock route or what, but I think his POV is beyond stupid. These are part of his comments on Daniel Murphy (2nd baseman for the Mets) who took some time off to be with his wife after the birth of his kid.

Such sentiment was foreign to Francesa, a father of three who seemed to take personal umbrage at Murphy’s leave of absence.

“I was at the birth and was back to work the next day,” he thundered. “I didn’t see any reason not to be working.”

Later, he doubled down on his dad-bashing:

“What are you going to do? I mean you are going to sit there and look at your wife in a hospital bed for two days?” he mocked. “Your wife doesn’t need your help the first couple of days; you know that you’re not doing much the first couple days with the baby that was just born.”

If you HAVE to be back at work the next day b/c you have no choice, that's one thing. Going back because you think there isn't anything for you to do, well, I feel sorry for that baby and whoever you procreated with.

Anyways, how much time do you think is needed for someone on PATERNITY leave. If I'm not mistaken, maternity leave is usually around 3 months or so.

6 weeks for females and males at my job, no pay (FMLA)

I could have just stared at my son for days…

I wanted to be with him every second.

CA has paid paternity leave up to a certain number of weeks (six?) :hat

so does NJ

The stance that Francesa and Boomer/Carlton took could have been stated better. Most athletes will miss the game for the birth which is understandable and are right back with their team for the next game. If the Mets were in the middle of a postseason hunt, I wouldn't have been ok with Murphy taking off multiple games. The season just started so it's not a big deal at all.

Paid paternity leave as in you have to take your sick/personal days?

Paid in as it is paternity days so it doesn't come out of your personal or sick days. It's just extra.

I think in CA, men get like 2 weeks paid leave now. Women I think are like 2 months with third month getting only a percentage of your income. I could be wrong though.

It's an interesting debate, because I think it was Joe Flacco who decided to play a game over being there for the birth of his child. I think it's ****** up, but that's just me.

Personally, I put family over everything....

a few weeks at least. dude is missing 3 days which will probably equate to missing 3 games out of 162 for the birth of his child.

i've said it before and i'll say it again:

SAYING STUPID STUFF SHOULD HURT

How is it ****** up? At one time, men weren't allowed in the delivery room during labor and those kids turned out fine.

Fans care about the game more than the players most of the time. It's a job, just happens to pay very well.

I agree with this. Francesa, Boomer and Carton are ******* morons for the stances they took. All that hire a nurse BS and Francesa saying he came to wrok the same day was idiotic to me.

I think a week or two at most is good. Also gotta worry about the health/state of mind of your significant other as well. That can't be overlooked.
