I was promised they'd be removed. I'll be in touch with the CEO of Yuku's current parent company by the end of the week regarding their upgrade path anyway. I'll make sure they're aware of our displeasure.
I hate these things even more than you do. They're more lucrative, but it's fool's gold because the short term boost from such ads is more than offset by the longterm cost of training regular users to install ad blocking software and discouraging infrequent users from visiting again in the future.

Trust me, I want to do the same for our Doctors Without Borders/Somalia fundraiser, but Yuku just changed owners about a month ago and the previous company is playing with our money as they teeter on the verge of bankruptcy.
I may have to leak the previous CEO's Twitter account at this rate so you guys can give him some feedback directly... I'm not at all pleased about the prospect of a collections attorney taking a big cut of what should be going to charity.
Obviously all of this has put a hitch in our donation schedule, but there's a major unannounced donation from early 2011 that will be revealed once the project has reached completion. Thanks as always to everyone who supports our advertising. You guys keep NT alive and make all of our community contributions possible.

I'm not quite at the stage where I'd like to create a post with the CEO's name, then enlist NT's help to make that the #1 Google result for any prospective employers searching for information about him. (Don't jump the gun on our behalf, either, detectives.) I'd rather not make this any uglier than it has to be.
Unfortunately, bankruptcies happen and there is a distinct possibility that we'll lose some or all of what we're owed. That doesn't mean we'll cancel planned contributions to MSF to match user donations for the Somalia campaign; it just means that it'll take some time to recoup those funds.

As intensely frustrating as all of this is, it's going to serve as the catalyst for a new era - and I'm not talking about another cap (though we'd still like to do that, too.)
