I'll try to make this story as short as possible. I went to a JUCO in Iowa to play basketball this past year, but had to redshirt because a left kneeinjury that I suffered before I signed the Letter of Intent. Before I went to that school I was gonna sign with another top notch JUCO, but since I didn'thave enough credits to graduate HS the coach took the scholarship offer away. Fast forward to now. I have 4 years of eligibilty to play and I'm trying togo to the JUCO that I got the offer pulled from. Since I injured my knee after HS he wants to see me play again to see how it is. But this season whileredshirting I messed up some articular cartilage in my right knee, so I might need surger within the next 12 months. Should I tell him about the injury beforeI sign because history shows that there's a chance that he could say he doesn't want me again, and it's rare that I get second chances.

Drink milk, and hit the gym. Injuries FTL!

I dont know much about this stuff, but as far as I know, Honesty is usually the best policy.

Good luck

1. play professionally in Europe for a year , then enter the NBA draft
2. ask this question in the Sports & Training forum instead of general

The thing is I've battle through a few injuries since my senior year in HS. My coach this year labeled me as soft when in reality I was playing with 0 goodknees.
Wryneck, I guess my go-to-move is my hook shot.
I don't want these injuries to catch up with me next year when I got D1.

It kind of is a question about sports, then it's not a question about sports. Kind of a question about doing the right thing.

So basically you wanna get your scholarship without them knowing about your knee?

Do not tell them, if you need surgery, then you tell them your knee started to ache and you went to the doctor and he recommended surgery.

I wanna tell them, but doing so might have me in a terrible situation.

do this

Eh, before I signed my LOE in '00, I had torn my Rotator Cuff...I didn't tell the schoolbecause I knew it would have been a wrap....I would do the same thing again if I had to....in your case tho, it seems like you have too many knee injuries andwith ball and at a Juco at that, you better make sure that they will provide you with the multiple daily treatment sessions that you need to recover. I alsoknow that Juco's don't play, they'll drop you if they find out you're hurt....

where do you want to go? how good are you? grades?

You might want to tell them because upon your signing your LOI they usually make you take a physically with the team doctor. At least that's what they didat my school. If you don't tell them and you take the physical and they find out at that time, you'll be in a lot more trouble and in a much worseposition than if you told them initially.

Kind of a bad situation all the way around but you'd be better off being honest from jump then them finding out after you sign and sending a a bad reporton your physical abilities as well as your integrity to every team across the nation.

Out of HS I was getting interest from mid-major and some high major teams. But it was mainly off my athleticism. My grades were bad my senioryear, so every D1 stopped looking at me. That's why I had to take the JUCO route. Where I go after JUCO really depends on how well I shoot the ball thisupcoming season.

Won't they give you a physical prior to giving you the offer? Also, there is probably some sort of clause where they can revoke thescholarship if they find out you signed with an injury knowingly. Tell the truth my man, good luck. Stay healthy!

Dont tell them! I know I wouldnt. The coach quit on you once, so the chance that he is going to do it again is pretty big. The question is if you are ready toplay through the pain and get surgery when its absolutely needed, or just get a surgery as soon as you sign?

I play some semi-pro ball in Europe and in a similar situation I didnt tell my coach my knee was screwed up. I torn cartilage in my left knee and played on itfor more than two years, before I tore it up even more and had to get surgery. I dont know how bad is your injury, but I was able to strenghten my legs to thepoint that I didnt even use a brace for that torn knee. My athleticism was all gone at that time, but I didnt have much to begin with though. I tore it onceagain only because I lost all the strenght in my legs after I lost a little less than 20 pounds in 10 days time, due to some other surgery I had. During thesecond day of pre-season practice I slipped and heard a crack, and just then knew my knee was done.

I caught a lot of slack from the coach, cuz he labeled me soft, but I wasnt able to go through any practice without some heavy pain killers or make a layupgoing off that injured leg. Finally I told him, about 3-4 days after the second game of the season after I didnt play well, that Im having a surgery in about2-3 days. He said he knew something was wrong, and that he would welcome me back after I go through the rehab. The thing is, after I was ready to play therewas a new coach and I wasnt welcomed back anymore, so after a couple run ins with him I quit by myself.

i wouldn't tell them man, keep it a secret hopefully it works out for you, good luck

I'm leaning toward keeping it a secret, because the chances of finding somewhere else isn't good. I also want to go to a Gerald SniderExposure Camp next month. I can hold off having the surgery with pain killers, I think.
