One of Michael Vick's representatives announced today at a sporting goods symposium in New York that the Eagles quarterback has signed an endorsementdeal with Nike.

The Sports Business Journal reported that Mike Principe, managing director for BEST, the agency that represents Vick, confirmed the deal, but thatPrincipe would reveal no other details.

This is a fascinating turn of events since Nike had cut its ties to Vick in 2007 after he pled guilty to dog-fighting charges. When it first suspendedVick's deal, a company statement said Nike considers "any cruelty to animals inhumane and abhorrent." Nike reportedly made 30,000 of the Vick Vshoes and dropped the shoe before distribution, costing the company a reported $1.5 million.

Nike needs the publicity. They've lost a tremendous amount of street cred over the years, pandering to those who sing their praises on places like Niketalkand ISS. They, Nike, knows it too.

is this a serious post?

Nike needs publicity?
Nike losing "street cred" due to pandering?

one of the most recognized logos in the world needs publicity to do what, exactly?

they outfit most of the top NCAA football and basketball teams.
they have shoe deals with about half of NFL, NBA, and MLB players.
they just outfitted the winningest Olympic teams.

you're going to need to qualify your statement because that just doesn't make any sense at all.

Absolutely not. If history's shown us anything, Nike does whatever comes to mind, public opinion be damned. Ever since Nike signed Michael Jordan,Nike's been criticized/sanctioned from everything from questionable pricing to human rights violations. Dennis Rodman is the only Nike endorser that gotdropped and not resigned after he kicked the cameraman in the balls back in the day. What Dennis did was light compared to the heat Kobe got after Colorado.Nike signed him and gave him one of the biggest lines outside of Jordan. I'm not surprised that they picked him up. He was one of their biggest guns andhis shoes became rarer after Nike dropped the line.

You clearly know nothing about business. Honestly, ISS and NT are great. However, the common customer of Jordans are regular folks who arent die hard fans ofkicks like most of us here are. They make more money off the common customer than the die hards. They don't need any publicity. Vick is a cash cow. He is abrand named football player. He will make them money which is their goal. And I bet you people will rock his shoes
