As I've gotten older, I've strayed further and further away from Ikea (as far as sofas, tables, chairs, etc. are concerned). I still rock with Ikea when it comes to linens, bed spreads, and lighting.

To me, Ikea is for that college life. Good for those 4 years of partying and chillin' and then you can dispose of everything without it hurting your pockets.

Honestly ikea furniture holds its value and their designs are very nice and something fun to put together....I've ventures into West Elm, Pier 1 and Crate and Barrel too...my other go to spots.

Holds its value though??  I guess you're right in that the value in Ikea is that its relatively cheap.

Why not just have a carpenter custom make you a closet for waaaay cheaper?
The boxes are cheap but the accessories needed to complete the closets are expensive, especially the doors. 

Paid $1000 for the materials and labor for 2 rooms. Here's 1. The other one is still under construction.

I dunno if paying a carpenter would have been cheaper considering I still wanted te sliding doors...both closets with inserts came to about 1600$...it was pricey but it didn't break the bank and I have the optiOn to always go back to Ikea and purchase new inserts to further customize the look of the wardrobes if I wanted to..btw, your closets are coming out great...I love the position of the chandelier.

I love reed diffusers, specifically vanilla ones. Lemon-grass is nice too. You really want something that is subtle and not offensive to the nose.

I agree, it'll be a lot different here in NZ but I still think getting a builder in would be expensive.... Unless you can get a hook up.


Slight tangent - Steezy are you leaving those concrete blocks (it looks like concrete block, correct me if I'm wrong lol) exposed where the wall use to be? Be careful, concrete retains a lot of moisture.


Thankfully my brother is a builder so I can feed him and his mates beer and food as payment for knocking down a wall in my house when I get possession.

I'm having him build/I'll build under his guidance

a construction plywood unit for my TV and it'll also act as some shelving for books, décor, etc. I'll stain it black so it just looks like your standard modern square shelving system.

I've got so many ideas in my head it's ridiculous! Will post pictures of the house when I get it so y'all can see my 102 year old beauty

Damzin - nah man, that ain't concrete, when the walls came down the space was larger than the specs of the two Pax wardrobes, so I had to build a frame, so it's just Sheetrock on the side, the top was Sheetrock also but I knocked it off because I couldn't fit the Pax frames in that was screw up #2 of this whole project...so now on top is just a metal beam across with a small piece of Sheetrock, to give it sort of a flushed look...and in the back is concrete, but there is about a foot and a half of space back there between the wall and the actual Pax frames...wish I knew a builder....here in the states, specially in NY where everything is inflated, contractor rates are through the roof.

I will more than likely be moving to Queens at the end of my lease, will have a lot more space to work with and it's a home I can furnish (rent will be a lot cheaper).

Ikea is like what H&M is to clothing. Does not hold value an is cheap.
Personally have got things from them back in the day all that stuff is not for a home, better for dorm life. Agreed.

I feel you. In Los Angeles, labor is cheap right now since no one is working. I had a Pax in that room that crumbled after I threw too many coats on and is the only reason I went with a solid wood setup.

I got my fingers crossed....their stuff has never failed me before and the last thing I need after all this work is this joint crumbling on me...fortunately we have a closet designated for coats already...the only things that would be hung is shirts really and my wife's dresses...denim I usually keep folded in a drawer...

any specific brand you'd recommend?  i looked into yankee candles candles and reed diffusers...them thangs is expensive and apparently don't last that long (for the price).

i can.....

but yea, i take out the dishes when i'm done.  i also always leave my window cracked open to air out the room before i leave for work.  but when i get back and close the window then walk out the room and walk back in, i notice the room has this weird scalp smell

  yes i shampoo my hair daily.  i also change my sheets regularly and vacuum then febreze the carpet every one or two weeks.

Eefffffffff BoConcept, a few years back I walked in, looked at this modern white leather loveseat, look at the tag and it read 10k, walked right out...ikea lighting for the most part is horrible

Just moved into my first apartment... paying rent for 2 apartments FTMFL....... starting with a clean slate, my living room is totally empty, I need to figure out what to do with it, Im not satisfied with the flooring in the apartment though, dont know what to do... ill try to get a pic in a little while...

Picture of empty living room, I hate the tile floors but I'll eventually find something to cover up that eye sore... as far as furniture, I don't even have an idea of what I want or how I would even lay it out....
