Basketball Thread About Nothing

Shorty from IG got a lil handle but her shot getting punted to the wall with that speed and lift against my league.

AI’s my goat but K👁️free is perhaps the best I’ve seen. Answer is probably outside top 5 in that category now. J Crawsover was too smooth & had my favorite signature move.

Related but aside, if my guy played in Silver’s NBA, he’d be able to do his real ‘carry’ crossover the whole time & kill even more.

Every generation gets the benefit of seeing what came before so we’ll see how long that crown lasts for Kyrie.

how you guys feel about
  1. players lifting/dragging their pivots in "triple threat" and taking their first step - most egregiously done by the professional youtube hoopers and typically shifty and quick lil guards
  2. when the offensive player gets beat to the spot and they give a slight non extended push with the off hand
i have noticed it more and more recently when playing

i think that ‘rip through’ travel happens on all levels, definitely a footwork thing but i’ve always thought it’s incongruous to allow steps into a shot & not allowing a step into a dribble

yea as long as it isn’t an egregious push, it’s all in the game; similar to players (whether offense or defense) creating contact

I agree that it is funny that at all levels (even ignoring the gather/zero step in FIBA/NBA) that there is a difference - but in that position moving the pivot foot before releasing the ball is a travel - and in that scenario should be called because it gives a clear advantage.

I’ve never been sure WHY there’s a difference - but it’s clearly spelled out in the rules.

I ageee on the second one too - it has to be a decent push to be an offensive foul - and most of the time it can’t be anyway because the defender isn’t legal so it’s a no-call.

has it happened to you as a defender?

let's say you are the defender and you aren't hand checking and playing cleanly. you beat your man to spot each and every single time and then you get that slight push. it has happened to me a bit and seen it happened to others, there is literally no real good recovery as a defender. it makes playing D a bit frustrating and makes me wanna just foul the straight outta the offensive player throughout the possession

i have also done it when defenders get too handsy/are hacking and not sure if i ever saw a good counter when i have done it either

if you really beat the player to the spot you could get in position to be stable such that the push is ineffective but often times even as a defender may get to the spot 1st they are out of position/off balance…or don’t have leverage because the offensive player is lower or shoulder(s) in position to keep the defender off them

if both players are moving it is almost impossible because a smart offensive player knows it doesn’t take much to use the defender’s momentum against them if the defender isn’t mindful

Don’t look promising in NY but Minny vs NY is still the dream. Seeing playoff KAT having to be coaxed into aggression and being completely lost on defense makes me think the Knicks got robbed. Those points are empty if it gets given right back on the other end. Despite Julius’ dubious nature, he was a large factor behind the rise. He looks to have settled into his role now which is awesome. The combination of him and DiVo in NY was a bigger impact no doubt than Big Purr.

This is all Hartenstein’s fault but get that money brotha.

And Richard Jefferson is pretty good on the broadcast when not glazing GS.

1. Moving the established pivot gets called rarely on the courts I played. Idk how egregious a drag we’re talking here though. I haven’t seen those YouTubers. Someone who is notorious for traveling tho gets watched and gets no leeway.

2. Gently slap the hand back or away cuz that’s the only way you can get to defend. This isn’t football but if they wanna play that way we can.

i know man gets a bunch of 💨 💨 💨 for the travel or nah vids but his breakdowns are usually on point…i wonder how long before they unify the rule set for hs/college/fiba/nba
