Your thoughts?

I got into it at work with a few kats... Just told them back in both of their primes, as I recall, these two dudes were really equal.

F'what "historians" say now... Kane had a flow that could compete with Rakim's, plus had the ladies, fashion icon and would dance and be NOT labeled "corny" or a "sellout".

Not many accomplished that feat.

R still that dude, but, many sleep on Kane like he wasn't "it"...

Lyrically they are neck & neck...

I think Kane's flow was a lil bit better... He just came off so clever...

But overall I'd have to go with:

Rakim's catalog is more impressive than Kane's...

Kane had ONE classic album, and another SOLID joint... He didn't really do anything noteworthy after that as far asmaking "albums" is concerned...

Where with Rakim he came in the game with 3 straight groundbreaking albums... Don't Sweat The Technique is also a VERY SOLID album also...I enjoyed it

You pretty much summed it up

But i will say that they both dropped album in 88 Long Live The Kane>>>Follow The Leader

But other than that Rakim>>Kane

If Kane wouldn't have gotten on that pimping/love song style type raps then it would be a another story

I know Rakim is a lyrical monster or at least was as far as this timeframe is concerened but OVERALL, and the key word is overall to me Kane is better. Kane is just more versatile to me, and that's makes a world of difference. To me this is like comparing Nas vs. Jay Z, but there's no need to startthat debate.

I was gonna say the EXACT same thing... Rakim is NaS to Big Daddy Kane's Jay Z...

But thats a whole different 10 page thread of its own...

QFT

Rakim might be better but I rock wit King Asiatic Nobody Equals

Then again I like Jay more than Nas

Yea, that's a good comparison. Both were known and respected, but one was more flashy and the other one portrayed himself as a philosopher.

This is up there with asking me which one of my kids do I love more. These are the only two mc's at the top of my fav. and greatest top 10 that are NEVERinterchangeable. Ra will always be the greatest and Kane my fav. That @$*% is non negotiable.

We all know how drastically Rakim changed the game, more sothan anyone after him, but imo Kane was just the all around ultimate package.

Lyrically he wasnt too far behind Ra, and at times they touched on the same issues but Kane went a little further with it. From kicking knowledge to thatsmooth @$*% to that party @$*%, to the dancing, the style, and I could go on, my man touched all bases.

It's crazy how these two get overlooked now a days. How few ppl realize that these are probably they're fav. rapper's, fav. rappers. Or even theinfluence they had on the ENTIRE scene at the time and even to this day whether most realize it or not.
