Being a Coach Appreciation

Today was the first game I got to head coach for youth basketball.  Felt good winning but the proud feeling I get knowing my kids performed above my expectations and used everything I taught them is something special.  Plus having all the hyped parents thank me and ask to coach other teams made me feel real good.  
I took a Phil Jackson "Zen Master" approach to it.

I know that feel bro.I was the assistant coach for my little brothers basketball team this year and I ran every practice. If I ever get enough free time I would love to be the head coach

i have 3 6th grade basketball teams and its easily the happiest time of my week.

I was an assistant coach for my schools bball team last year and that was dope. This year I skipped sports and was the head coach for our schools debate team. The heart and dedication I witnessed from my debaters was truly inspiring and I loved every minute of it.

I was an assistant coach a few years back for a middle school team and the feeling of joy I received when they ran the press break correctly to seal a win was exhilarating. I wish I ahd the time to get back to it but cant do much with this 9-5

A. Big fat kids thinking they are God's gift to athletics.
B. Know it all parents
C. PArents threatening you because their kid isn't getting tick
D. Losing damn near all of your games.

Won't be fun then. But when a kid comes up to you and says, "Coach ___ I never knew half of the stuff you taught me before this season" then it all feels so good.

Inner city coaching is a different beast man. Remember most of these dudes never get instruction from a male so they don't usually know how to take it. No fathers, no male teachers (other than PE), so you are the devil to many of them. It is tough man, the athlete of today is tough to deal with. But someone taught me so we have to teach the youngins

been to all of these places. luckily a few of our scrubs have improved enough to shut up their parents.

coached my sons t-ball team last year , absolute nightmare .

kids drove me insane , their attention spans were like 3 seconds . made it through the year but i'm not going near coaching till he's bigger .

Been coaching about 4 years now. It is a grind. From recruits, to gameplan, to player development to parents to dealing with classroom issues. Just keep working hard and dont settle. Attend some coaching clinics this summer, also I would suggest reading the coach k book called the golden way I believe. Talks about player motivation and other stuff. I have my own program at a school now here in the metro Detroit area and recruit for a university in Vancouver so if you want the career just stay dedicated.

You need to become a manager for the men's or women's team then. What are you currently doing to reach that goal?

Im trying out for the team next year (D3 school) if that dont work out I'll just ask the head coach if he needs a student manager

I could also ask the womens coach too since I know him fairly well
