Best NFL GMs?

After reading the week in review about how bad the management for the 49ers are, I was wondering who do you guys think runs the team the best from the top?

- I'm a Giants fan first and foremost and I have a ton of faith in Jerry Reese and how he runs the team.
- Whoever is running The Patriots and Steelers are pretty damn good as well in terms of consistency.

Howie Roseman aka Andy Reid (who's responsible for all football matters)

Seems to have made the right moves by getting rid of our vets right before they fall completely off

Yea sort of touched on this in the WIR thread too... Ted Thompson has been an amazing personnel evaluator in an organization that is publicly owned. Fans (including myself at times) get after him for not going after big FA's or trading for big names or even pieces of the puzzle that everyone sees as the obvious thing to do. (Beastmode...)


He just paid Tramon Williams who he brought in as a UDFA after the Texans (?) cut him... Signed Sam Shields this year as a UDFA that hasn't even been playing CB for 2 years yet and hes playing Nickel like its no big deal. Des Bishop... Plugged into Barnetts spot and playing great.

What a pick. He's said that if Raji was off the board at #9 he was going to use that pick on Matthews. No one saw the Claymaker coming. THe guy just makes good decisions, flies under the radar, you dont hear jack %#%$ out of Green Bay in the offseason yet hes fielding (i think) 20 guys that HE has drafted every Sunday. Thats no joke.

Mark Dominik. Dude found gems in 7th rounders and waiver wire pickups that are starting for us this year as rookies and second year players. Every single player we picked in the draft this year is either starting or playing meaningful minutes. Mike Williams in the 4th round, Blount and Dezmon Briscoe off waivers, Cody Grimm, Erik Lorig and Dekota Watson in the 7th round. Last year we got EJ Biggers and Sammie Stroughter in the 7th round, and the best quarterback in the draft with the 17th pick.

Some of that credit has to go on the coaches too.  Plugging in guys and they workin out isn't just a GM signing them and giving them a chance, coaching those guys, and putting them in the right spots is also a big part of it.  

Ozzie and Ted are both solid.  And I'm thinkin that Mike Holmgren has a real legit shot at joining the list of solid GM's.

Theres no doubt about that.  I talked more about it in the WIR thread like I said... Specifically BB as a personnel guy and coach.  I agree completely about coaching + management sharing the credit.
