I dont feel like paying for Rosetta Stone or whatever...
 
I'd say if you're serious, get a book. Internet can distract you, use it as a supplement.

Japanesepod101 seems to have some good stuff too.

real talk..I have a friend who has been teaching himself Japanese for the past 3 years..He's damn near fluent now

You should purchase the Genki books to get an introduction. 

Also, from what I could tell, Rosetta Stone doesn't seem like a good method to learn Japanese anyways.

Why do you want to learn Japanese? Just curious.
Im planning to teach english in Japan or Korea after I graduate college. Im Korean so Korean isn't a problem but just in case I do want to go to Japan.

Be careful tho, teaching english in japan is like a trap. A lot of foreigners (like myself) end up here staying longer than expected and most end up stuck in the teaching english field. Not that its the worst job, there are just a lot of half *** schools and terrible employers.
