Bicycles in college

I was wondering if anyone has any tips or suggestions on what type of bike (road, mountain, cruiser, etc) one would use for commuting to class. As far as pricei am willing to spend 200 at the most. I've looked at bike stores and the prices are pretty high, so I am stuck with purchasing a bike at either target orwalmart. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks is advance!

I got mine from Craigslist. A road bike is recommended. You look cool and you're going fast.

-Craigslist or eBay are your best options for a road bike. You can upgrade to better parts in the future.
-I wouldn't suggest a mountain bike as they're heavier and more cumbersome than road bikes but your choice.



But..........If you want something new and badass, get this.

A pimp-bike if I'd ever saw one.

Kona AfricaBike is about $200-300.Don't have one, but for campus cruising, it looks good enough.

Be careful homie. I have seen TONS of bikers getting tickets for mashing around campus on their bikes. Most campuses strictly forbid you from riding throughit, even though people do anyways. Just be on the lookout for security and police.

Check out craigslist for a decent commuter road bike. Hit up your local bike shop and ask questions about what size you are and they'll recommend somebikes. You don't have to purchase from them, but they'll hook you up with more detailed information. Also, look around at swapmeets if you'relooking for a bargain. If you're buying used, look at the frame, make sure it's not busted and just covered with some paint; this happened to a friendof mine who actually manages a bike shop, so it happens.

I understand why people bike, it's faster, exercise, etc. But people on my campus are the worst, they always expect me to jump out of my way causethey're on the bike, or go way too fast and almost clip me.

I swear before I graduate I'm going to push someone off one of their bikes to take out my revenge.

I'm that petty.

Get a road bike! Like world's enemy said it loooks cool and really fast. Forget those fixies.. some people look like clowns on them. Also.. cruiser iskinda eh. I used to like them til I realize a lot of people look lame on it. Some girls look

on them though. Glad my college is a bike town

Or a mountain bike frame with road bike tires, that means you can have almost road bike speed with mountain bike durability.

you will find good used bikes on craigslist. bikes from department stores are crap dont buy those.
