Big Bear

stay away from mountain high
Mt. High is cool, IMO, even on peak days. It's just crowded, but it allows you to work on fundamentals. It's a good place to get someruns, if you don't want to go to Big Bear and happen to get stuck up there.

I like going to Mt. High on Sunday's, the commute is short and I usually have to work the next day. Bear is cool, but it is a longer drive, with moremountain roads and it is just as packed.

Mammoth is great, but it can be an expensive trip. 1 trip a season so far to Mammoth, trying to make it more. Even "Burrito Runs" are gettingexpensive.

ooIRON MANoo- I agree, but when you're a casual snowboarder since 96' like myself, Mt. High is only good for a few runs.

I havent been up to Mt. High since I got a season pass back in '04. It's just so damn frustrating. I understand its gonna be crowded during peak times(like weekends or holidays) no matter where you go, but I dont know what it is but it seems like Mt. High has a MUCH HIGHER % of kids parkin their%#$+% in ahorizontal line on the middle of the run effectively cutting off a 15 ft stretch of the mountain. Multiply this by half a dozen different groups squattin atthe same time and youre almost forced to take a certain path down the run. Maybe its just because Mt. High is such a small mtn and has narrower runs? I dontknow, but that stuff drives me bananas.

Yo, is BEAR MTN / Snow summit packed on Fridays? Just wondering because im planning to head up tomorrow.

I went on a friday about 3/4 weeks ago and it wasnt that bad, but I stayed for the weekend and saturday/sunday was crazy crowded. But Snow Summit isstill less packed then Bear though...

Went up there in early January when the big storm hit, it was snowing the whole time I was up there....

There will be rain/snow in SoCal this week (mid-week) so the weekend should be nice. I'll be hitting the slopes, most likely Mt. High.

Im hitting up Bear/Snow summit on Feb1st-3rd, so I hope the runs get absolutely dumped on by the snow. And I copped a new setup from snowjam on friday, so impretty stoked to try it out.

it's worse when they're blocking the lip of a rail. they end up messing it up trying to dig themselves out

My cousin had a 4wd suv, so the drive was okay... What sucked was there was a police officer redirecting everyone to go through the back way, but he madeeveryone put there chains on in the beginning. So we were behind a bunch of cars driving 30 mph...and there weren't any signs of snow for at least a couplemiles. When we did hit the icy roads, 4wd was alrite. We left around 4pm, and the 138 was still closed at that time. Me and my sis will prolly try and head uptomorrow.

Going back up to Big Bear this friday, three days of fresh snow... sounds good to me. Anyone going to be there this weekend?

You have to take advantage of Mt. Highs 2 for 1 Wednesdays

.

I want to take the wife to teach her how to board, but she is still sick (started with the flu, and now has acute bronchitis) and tomorrow is her B-Day. Wasplanning on being there Sunday, but the plans are being nixed now. I'm glad, get to watch the Super Bowl (I would have watched it at Bullwheel anyway, lol)and I don't have to buy chains/cables for my car (Showers/Snow forecast for the weekend).

Hey do12jet, me and my sis ended up getting there around 5 and prolly left around 9. The 138 was open, but some parts still seemed icy. Me and my sis would defhead up tomorrow, but it's my mom and grandma's bday as well. It's my first season, so every try to take every chance I can to get up there. Butdamn, I got like 60 points left on my card...

is the bullwheel good? never had a chance to go there to take advantage of their happy hours and all that good stuff. and llcooljunr get a season pass (itll be300 for you and that basically gets paid off in six 8 hour days or 5 days during winter break) next year. goes on sale on sept 1st and with that, you have theopportunity to jib a little bit at the buck off event (even though i don't do it because i don't want to risk my season ending before it even starts).

Yea, I'm for sure gonna get a season pass next year, especially since my family recently moved to Corona from La Puente; the fastest time we got up therewas around 45 minutes hehe.

is the bullwheel good?
It's a cool spot to hang out after a few runs and get some drinks and a snack. Plus, it is a good spot to watch some NFL action if you go upon a Sunday, which I do often.

I recommend the Chicken Quesadilla,

don't know if this is mtoo late but you gone need to have to good brakes on ur whip before going there...it might be snowing too

Went up to Bear this weekend, it was mad cold! Snowed on saturday and all sunday, snowed a pretty good bit in the morning before we could get on the road andget back home. We almost got pulled over for not having chains on, but my friends car is FWD and Snow tires got us off with a warning.

The damn place sold out! Got to summit at 1030, and they told me bear and summit were sold outta mountain. never even heard of it before this past weekend. Butgot night tickets (which start @3) so it wasnt a big deal. Over all, pretty sick. Does anyone know when Bear's season is over?

Yea it is. This past weekend was the perfect time to break in that new board I copped. =)

I went up to Snow Valley last Wednesday. It's still nice... Lift tickets are 18 bucks every Wednesday.

Is that the place with only one run? If so, how is it? Ive heard about it but didnt think one run would be enough for a bunch of people to hit up...
