billiards question

i bought a pool cue today. i noticed there's screw on cue tips & also covers w/ leather on the end.

i just want to know if I need to buy anything additional for the cue tip or can I just chalk it and play on it as is?

here's a pic of mine, i think the tip is wood? it's a Canadian maple cue.
