Black Culture Discussion Thread

Basically he had self hatred… identity crisis and was a full blown weirdo who probably rubbed his peers the wrong way.. it is what it is (if all that is true).

Sitting on that phone all day, social media, YouTube, etc. these folks have absolutely no social skills.

He hated being black? Sucks for him because I love it.

"All my friends outgrew me..." stood out more to me than, "I hated being black..". I'd like to know more. Was all his friends white? What made him feel like they grew out of him? If they grew up, what was he doing?

I mean, everyone on that list, ESPECIALLY Rick Ross, damn near owe their whole career to him.
Its different times and different things are celebrated. It is what it is, get money. Ricky owes a little to the the Real Rick Ross also.

Speaking of the devil. Snoop posted this the other day

Do yall feel like something like a buy-in is bottom of the barrel because these companies should be doing what they're supposed to do regardless?

I don't know about it being dumb. This country is horrifically racist and sexist. Having a company go against the tide and stand up for the right policies in the face of what will undecidedly be an attack from those who are our obvious enemies and who want to see us second class citizens again...that's dumb?

Like I get it, the idea that these corporations can't be trusted regardless, and they'll do what you want one month, then two months down the line reverse their policies, but what's the alternative?

Should we not be selective with our money where feasible? I'm sure most of us have cards to one or more of these places where you can buy in bulk at a discount. Should you not choose to patronize the one that is actively making a commitment to give people who look like us a fair shot?

I'm just looking for the rationale. I'll call it dumb as well if I can figure out a line of reasoning why it is.

Been having convos with family and friends over all this stuff. After a while it gets to be taxing. Knowledge is a hell of a drug. There are so many businesses out here doing horrible ****. Just learned yesterday a business I go to once a month has an owner that's doing some repressive **** and supporting the current douchebag of a president. It's not a big business. I think they have 2 locations. And sure we can just assume that most of these business owners are trash. But some aren't. Some places actively assert principles we all espouse in here.

Like if finessence finessence owned a car business, why wouldn't I do a "buy in" with him, rather than go to John Hawkins down the street who is supporting Trump and what not? 🤔

We use and indirectly support soooooo many tainted companies and businesses that it’s physically impossible to boycott them. I just tend not to take stuff personal. Acknowledge it, and live life.

It’s just like in nature. Hippos and crocodiles are enemies, but they share the same rivers in Africa.

Hyenas and lions are mortal enemies…. But they co-exist on the Serengeti. I treat life the same way. Tread lightly, understand, and move on with life

Companies that have dropped their DEI Departments are essentially saying they are tired of being forced to hire White Women because they have BY FAR benefitted the most from DEI. So dropping it isn't even about NOT hiring Black folks because in most of these iindustries, black folks barely benefitted from DEI hiring practices.

So saying, "I am boycotting them because they dropped DEI" is kinda silly. It's more of an optics thing if you ask me.

And then you have a BUY-IN @ a company that you don't even know WHAT their hiring practices look like as far as hiring Black folks in corporate positions.

That's why it's silly.

Additionally, Black women are less likely to have access to the same support and advocacy as white women. Black women who are often numerically under-represented in professional occupations regularly grapple with how to counteract negative racial stereotypes that undermine their professional images in the office. In response, they often have to strategically engage in code-switching, by adjusting their speech, appearance, and behaviors to try and fit in.

While many white women have made gains in American workplaces, the gains for racial and ethnic minority women haven't been as significant. According to another McKinsey study, white women hold nearly 19% of all C-suite positions, while racial and ethnic minority women only hold 4%. Overall, white women have benefited disproportionally from corporate DEI efforts.

There's a tendency when implementing DEI initiatives to consider women's experiences with a unified view. The problem with that is that it tends to reflect the experiences of white women because they make up the dominant group of women leaders in corporations today.

Sure be selective but boycotting Target only to go to damn Costco makes ZERO sense. Why because they are saying they are sticking with their DEI (IE: Hire white women) Initiatives?

Trusting that these companies REALLY care about Diversity vs. Knowing they are doing it because socially it is the thing to do (as well as the monetary kickbacks they receive for doing so), is WILD.

The people have spoken, Costco will drop theirs sooner or later or they will have a LOT of angry shareholders;

Who Does Costco Give Political Donations To? https://finance.yahoo.com/news/does-costco-political-donations-150905105.html

68% to The Democratic Party
They STILL made donations to the Republican Party as well.

(Republican National Committee — $12,731.); (National Republican Senatorial Committee — $8,912.)

But we are doing BUY-ins with them? I don't understand.
