Black Culture Discussion Thread

I just watch this video and expected twerking. No its that dance from Louisiana(idk whats its called) that, honestly, I see more white people doing than anything else.

It’s still classless champ.

Respectability is a low hanging fruit type of topic…Nothing really changes if we pull our pants up or stop dancing at a graduation…Optics might be better but folks used to rock suits every day n we still had some of the same issues back then

It’s not about how others view us……..it’s about how we view ourselves. Which is why image matters. It’s also about having pride for yourself and those before you.

As the video points out, both house negros and field negros adapted to their respective environments.

That's why "respectability politics" is such an insult.

No group of humans is immune to conscientious stupidity or willful ignorance.

Yet when it comes to Black people in the US, we are constantly held to our lowest common denominator like no other group on the planet...even by Africans.

Everyone loves to point at the crabs in the barrel and offer an opinion on why they behave the way they do while doing their best to be accepted by those who made the barrel, caught the crabs, and put them there.

FYSA - the barrel/barrel makers still exist - they're only gotten better at hiding in plain sight.

🤔 i’m a bit confused…on one hand ‘respectability politics is such an insult’ but ‘Yet when it comes to Black people in the US, we are constantly held to our lowest common denominator like no other group on the planet...even by Africans.

what is meant by being held to ‘our lowest common denominator’ if we acknowledge that generalizations, pop culture & stereotypes are mostly contexts/lenses that most out groups interact with others, who is holding us black folk (or anyone) in the states to this?

there may be barrels/barrel makers, but what can be done about either…save for those who volunteer for entry into these bar lowering euphemisms (i think in the uk, they call this ‘tall poppy syndrome’) do any of us control our start point? as such the point that our environment shapes us is very pertinent

According to who, though? Who and/or what your idea of "class" based off of?

According to ME champ. Which is why that statement came from me. My idea of class is based upon what my parents taught me, my values and from what I have learned throughout the years.

Like DCAllAfrican DCAllAfrican said……class/decorum is not exclusive to white people only. Too many black people out here acting like they ain’t got no home training……or worse yet never received any home training.

And honestly, you got to watch those "white allies" too because they are also very loud in the , "Hey she can tweaks in stage with the president if she wants to" camp. Knowing damn well they wouldn't want/allow their kids to act the same.

It's just funny to me that we fight to have the right to be degenerate and then act like non-degeneracy is monopolized by the white man.
Those ones want people to act a fool and then use it against them down the line.

And where did your parents get it from? What about before that? You may not want to believe or have even thought about it that deep, but if you know the history America, you know where the idea of whats "classy". It may not have been sold to you like that, it may not have been sold to your parents like that, but you KNOW how it was sold to their people. Its just repackages "white is right/white acceptance". If WE are all or an vast majority is ok with it, whose eyes is our image being tarnished to?
"WeLl, ThEy GOt aLl The POwer." If you say so it shall be. Some folks don't understand power is given way easier than it is taken.

what is meant by being held to ‘our lowest common denominator’

Translation:

used to refer in a disapproving way to the sort of people in society who are least intelligent and who will accept low-quality products and entertainment: Ex: "The problem with so much television/movies/music is that it is aimed at the lowest common denominator."

Reasoning:

Black folks in the US do not control our narratives.

What is allegedly our "culture" has been carefully curated by others.

Who "makes it" or who is promoted as "successful" is out of our hands.

We control nothing.

Whenever we attempt to do so, the government responds immediately...especially regarding economics, family structure, self defense, or education.

The fastest way for a black man to end up on the alphabet list is to attempt to liberate his group from outside influence.

One more time for the people even in the back of the room………it’s not about white acceptance. This is the Black Culture Thread……not the Please Accept Me White People Thread. Folks in here and quite possibly in life are too concerned/worried about white people. Do some of ya’ll really be thinking about white people this much for real??

I don’t have care how the so called vast majority may view that video…….I’m saying it’s classless and ghetto. Black people love embracing the worst for us.

You say that all you want to, but at the end of the day the idea of how we should conduct ourselves goes back to slavery/Jim Crow and not wanting upset or look bad in from of white folks. You can flip in your mind all you want to. Values change with the times. I mean bruh you even out here calling **** "ghetto" WE DONT EVEN TALK LIKE THAT ANYMORE. You may not realize it but your whole persona comes off as white acceptance.

LOL. How did I know you or somebody would REACH all the way back and somehow bring up slavery/Jim Crow. If you got to go all the way back to those days then you already lost champ. Black people……the default card for EVERYTHING can’t be slavery/Jim Crow.

****** love talking about things they never experienced. Black people need to get off that. I don’t care how MY persona comes off……cause at the end of
the day I got the results to show and prove.

Anything goes unfortunately for our people these days. That’s exactly why the women in that video come across as classless, ghetto and or trifling. Feel free to pick whichever word you want to champ.

Meh.

If I capture a group of people,
put them in an environment with zero access to the outside world,
strip them of everything, including their humanity,
leave them with nothing of their past to hold on to,
forbid them from learning anything other than what's useful to my interests,
kill any of them who rebel or attempt to escape
and keep them in this state for hundreds of years...

What "culture" does that group of people have, and where did it come from?

Most folks couldn't even withstand the Stanford Prison Experiment before losing their minds at which was only two full weeks.

Imagine if it lasted hundreds of years, and someone says "why you going all the way back to the beginning of the experiment to explain how we got here"?

Also

How many Holocaust survivors are still around? Imagine anyone telling a Jewish person not to talk about it because they didn't live it.

My Mother is 85 years old and lived through segregation. Jim Crow didn't end until 1965...but I guess she has to shut up, because her feet weren't physically in chains  :smh:

Do you feel it's possible for black folks to want to act with class/decorum INDEPENDENT of this idea that it has to be done to impress/look good in front of white people?

I honestly wonder how much of the BLACK gender wars takes place off-line. I would say this has been one of the many negative effects of social media.

(Yes, Relationship issues are a human thing)

The hidden agenda behind some of these podcasts is to manipulate the public especially the people who can be easily be influenced such as the youth.

What would you feel they want to manipulate the youth to do/think/feel?

Who said anything about your Mother having to shut up……especially about something SHE lived through and experienced?? See the difference champ.

Once again…..for our more MODERN black people out there……slavery/Jim Crow CANT be the default card for everything.

Why don’t you have a job black man even though you are physically able to……..”Slavery”

Why did you just kill another black person…..”Slavery”

Young lady why do you have 6 kids by 5 different men..…….”Slavery”

Why are dancing and acting like a fool at your own graduation..…..”Slavery”

Why are you on Niketalk defending stupidity and degeneracy within the black community……”Slavery”

Snoop is a clown. David Sacks is legit a white supremacist from apartheid South Africa, like Elon :lol

So what about the part where he said he is using that capital to improve his community. Why is that being dismissed? Legit asking because ALL of our favorite folks are rubbing elbows with white supremacist individuals/corporations . What makes this one different, because Trumps face was in the marquee?

Legit asking.

Just for the record, I said him going to there to perform was a #LowIQ move when it happened so don't take this as me "defending" him.

Not sure the youth are the target audience with THIS genre of podcast.

I could see other branches of the "relationship" arena but these convos seem to be geared more towards actual ADULT adults.

Man, David Sacks and Elon musk are not giving money to “the hood” because snoop dog performed at the crypto ball for trumps inauguration :lol

But it’s still ******s out here talking about Ice Cube’s “platinum plan” :lol

They are taking money from some of the most OBVIOUS grifters and white supremacist, and lying in our face about it.

When diddy did the “vote or die” campaign, and all the other **** is clownish as well. But this is right here obvious. And him “explaining it” is another example of playing in our faces. As he continues to do so.

What did he really as YOU wrote “put into perspective and explain”? He just separated himself from Trump by saying David Sacks was the one who set it up. And snooop and Ebro are bout counting on the listening public in that medium to have any ideal who David Sacks is.

But people see right through the bs. Especially with snoop these days. People are rightfully souring on him. Never would’ve thought. But we are here now.

Yea I had no clue who this supposed business partner even was that he spoke of.

When I said what I said, I was basically just saying he finally explained himself and it wasn't as simple as, "I'm just going over there with Trump."

On top of him saying he will use those funds to support the community, which I'm not sure any of us can prove/disprove.

We have no idea what they are doing with their money so how do we decide when/when not to believe a celebrity when they say that?

My question would be what has Snoop shown us that leads us to believe he wouldn't be down for the community? I don't follow his every move so maybe yall know something I don't.

“Hey Snoop! I have a very important opportunity for you that are going to help with the initiatives, that you want to do dealing with the community and “the ‘Hood. We need you to show up, and we got a bag for you, and a bag for the community

The event is Donald’s Trump Crypto ball for his innaaguration :lol. The inviter is snoops friend, David Sacks who is a white supremacist that’s defending these rug pulls (to this very day) and talking about great replacement theories every single day on twitter.

Meanwhile, Trump is pulling rug pulls and crypto scams of poor people, merely weeks into his presidency.

Why are we missing this context DCAllAfrican DCAllAfrican . Yes. The democrats suck. But cmon man
