Black Culture Discussion Thread

Dawg… really…?

Now we can’t play sports? :lol :lol :lol

Some of my BEST friends and long term friendships came from playing sports. Stop it
i don't think you watch the whole thing, he wants black people to play sports, but he mentions he wants people to have a greater calling outside of sports.

What good is "extracting principles" if there's no avenue to use them?

Cuz said "they take the discipline, hard work, teamwork, sacrifice, ability to categorize life problems to perform a task, and put it in their insurance firm, law firm, or their dental practice".

Sounds good as long as you aren't listening.

How many young black athletes have a law firm, insurance firm, or dental practice waiting on them after they finish "extracting principles" from the foosball?

Some folks do what pays them. I ain't mad at it.

There are PLENTY of black scientists, doctors, dentists, lawyers, educators, historians, etc.

If an athlete is your leader, then the problem isn't the athlete.

Malcolm X spoke on this a long time ago.

Huh? So there aren't avenues for US to put what we learned from sports to use?

Whether or not you OWN anything or are even in a high stakes position there are PLENTY of ways to put into use what you can get from sports.

Don't agree with that point man. Nah. P Present

Zero idea what this is implying.

Colin Kaepernick. Muhammed Ali, Craig Hodges, countless conscious rappers - what do they all have in common?

What happened when they attempted to "extract principles"

I used to be mad at all the players who refused to take a knee, but now I know better.

10 years later, and they've been proven right.

Best to shut up and dribble and keep all that other stuff on the low.

Can't knock the hustle, Fam.

If we want "leaders," we shouldn't be looking for them on TV.

Basically:

Yea you are talking about something completely different that what you originally said.

My stance is there are MORE than enough ways black men are able to take what they've learned from sports and apply those principles to everyday living.

I can't understand why anyone would think otherwise.

My argument isn't whether or not sports provide values that can be used throughout life. Everyone knows that.

My argument is the first 40 seconds of the conversation.

The notion that somehow black men who "jump" are doing something wrong.

He's basically calling folks "sellouts" when the opportunities available for them vs for us to generate the same amount of revenue and earnings are far and few between.

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Principles don't pay the bills. I ain't mad at it. Like Malcolm X said. We shouldn't be looking for "leaders" on TV anyway.

Also, we have ZERO idea what these folks are doing off-screen.

Ex: We're still hearing about how much Prince donated/helped black causes that we never heard about when he was alive...because he was smart enough to shut up about it.

I honestly don’t think it’s bad or even that bad. I just saw it as a way to gain attention for the sales team.

When have any of us seen 4 Asian, White, or Latino women throwing their boobs around, in tight shirts, dancing in a dealership to sell cars?

One minute, Black men who "jump" are "sellouts".

The next minute, Black women who shake their behinds for buttered biscuits are "just having fun". :smh:

But did the women get forced to do this….? These aren’t kids. You’re blaming the capitalists trying to capitalize?

Being a black conservative in America is an oxymoron

Ultimately, black conservatives are not going to benefit from the principles they are pushing.
