My step dad used to be a black Mormon, I clown him incessantly for it.


People give Mormonism a bad rep for being openly racist against anyone that isn't white. In their defense every institution in this country wasOPENLY racist at some point including Christianity. Mormonism is an easy target for being a religion in its relative infancy.

 You've gotta give more detail on your dad. What made him quit?

Mormonism is interesting because you've seen it go from basically being a cult to a full fledged religion all within a recorded time scale.

Also if you've got time, the Vice Guide traveled to Mexico to look at the Mormon missionaries down there who are fighting the drug lords. Some of them are Romney relatives.

He learned more about the religion and their racist "past". They didn't even allow black people into their church until relatively recently.

Well yeah, apparently in 1978 "god" told them that they could allow black people to become priests in the church...which is funny because it took the pervasiveness of civil rights to hit the church and the threat to lose their tax-exempt status from Jimmy Carter.

They also think native americans are cursed lost people of early jewish tribes or something.

Yea, Mormons essentially believe Native Americans are the spawn of Satan. Funny how religions change to adapt to cater to public opinions of the times. Not without resistance of course. There is a reason why Mormonism is so fascinating, cause it takes so much ridicule for the same "sins" committed by other Judeochristian sects. Only if black people could have the same revelation my step father did about Christianity, but they have been indoctrinated for so long that it won't be that simple.

I wouldnt say its the fact of believing in "The Holy Trinity" that needs to be given up. I believe it is church as an institution. Things have changed so much from the "beginning" that everything is lost. I believe a true religion would be one that has not changed since its creation. Which means that does not exist.

The holy trinity was solidified at the nicene council...AKA....lets meet up and come up with the official rules of christianity before we lose control of this cult.
