I think it's just a joke to see how many people they can trick into believing it's an actual holiday. And every time some store displays "HappyKwanzaa", they get a laugh out of it

When I say "they", I mean the people who created it.

nope and i don't know anyone else that's black that celebrates it

Kwanzaa wack as !#!@. I didn't know it was a made-up holiday until college. I asked my homegirl from Kenya what she was doing for Kwanzaa and she looked atme like I had !%!@-slapped her. I never celebrated it before that, but then I just lost respect for the whole thing.

fun story about last day of work last tuesday

bosslady on the way out the door to me and my co-workers: "Bye you guys, have a safe and merry Christmas"
*sees me* "or Kwanzaa"
*sees my face* "or hanukkah or whatever you guys celebrate

lol i gave my first real life stoneface... its fun being the token black guy at work

When I was little I asked my mom why we don't celebrate Kwanzaa?

Jesus wasnt born in December.

Was just discussing this last week with my brother's girlfriend, who is actually from Ghana. We were saying how we don't know anyone in our circles offriends and family that celebrate Kwanzaa...

lots of ignorant or young people on this thread. the intent of creating kwanzaa was to start building black/african/colored/negro/whatever american traditions.when you look at people of hispanic, asian, native american, etc. descent, they still have traditions that they practice (Chinese New Year, Aarti, Día de losMuertos, etc). christmas was originally a religious holiday that devolved (for some people) into a retail holy day; i.e., worship of materialism/worldlypossessions.

kwanzaa is not about religon. it's about spirtuality, family, and community. you can practice any religion (christianity, judaism, islam, etc) andcelebrate kwanzaa.

for the record, i don't celebrate kwanzaa or christmas.
