Yes.

A person with 8 million is rich...a person with 300 million is wealthy.

I think you're underestimating that amount of money because you hear it throw around so much and because of that Chris Rock skits.

But most of those Billionaires...slide off of that list and into the 100s of millions of dollars range in bad times (like now) or after intial largeinvestments or losses.

It's not in our culture to be poor. That's only been the last 500 years of our history; look at the last 2000 years of our existence and what webrought to the world in terms of science, mathematics, agriculture and forms of government. You know the idea of a confederation of provinces where one federalgovernment controls the states? The Europeans who came to this country stole that idea from the Iroquois lead. The idea of impeaching a ruler comes from anAztec tradition. Great thread very very good discussion going on in here (besides the anthony kid but dats expected)

Personally I feel like these "New" money blacks are going to have a very significant role in how upper class African Americans are going to beviewed. Up until the past 30-40 years the entertainment industry hasn't been a way to necessarily become wealthy but dat has changed in todays world.Before the entertainment and sports industries became so profitable the only way to become wealthy were to go the college route.

Throughout the college/grad school experience blacks who are from inner cities or lower class families are looked down upon for surrounding themselves with"lower class people". They are in pursuit of hopefully being accepted into that "High Class" Society to advance there current status evenif it's at the expense of completely changing friends or making huge tweaks to your personality. Imagine Jay-Z or 50 Cent trying to fit it with thesefamilies the OP originally posted the only thing that even puts em in the same breath is the their wealth.

However with the increasingly ludicrous salaries for Musicians' Actors' Sports stars they are building there own circles where it's okay orrather preferred to help the people who once were in the same position as you. In no other industry would someone who's worth 400 Million be able to alignthemselves with someone who isn't wealthy, Someone who isn't Private school educated. However in these entertainment circles they become less and lessenamored with becoming like the "Old Money" and more about creating and adding prestige to there own circles.

It all depends on there actions. i'm currently a college student and as of right now don't know how much longer i will stay enrolled however, iapplaud any other black person who goes to school i would never consider someone a sellout for trying to better themselves it's ignorant. What solidifiessome of these people as sellouts is that they reach there well earned status and act as if they are better than everyone else. Like they are the only peopleworking hard or trying to obtain something, there are people who hald double the drive as some of these upper class kids, but they may not have the rightfinancial support or the right connections to become rich or be considered elite.

These high class kids who people refer to as "snobs" or "sellouts" really can't be blamed much simply because there whole existencethey were told that they were better than everyone else. The parents passing down these idiotic thoughts are to blame, As a black male i can't see anyreason why you would want to continue to add to that inferior label that most lower-middleclass men have to deal with.

"African Americans" make up 0.6% of the worlds population.

Which would mean the amount of "African American" billionaires is proportional to their population.
