You are correct in the fact that we wouldnt be accepted either way. However, the fallacy lies where "WE" start believing that we are better thatthose still back in the hood. We need to focus on "US" before we can worry about trying to be in some circle. Hence, my STRONG dislike for that Jackand Jill society. I mean seriously, for what?

i understand where you are coming from, but you can't blame upper middle class blacks wanting to surround themselves with people just likethem. keep in mind, in many aspects of their daily lives, they're one of only a few blacks. The Jack and Jill Society seems very good, i like the concept,i may join it one day. But what amazes me is how the black upper class frowns upon black+white relationships but want good hair and light skin soo badly.

I believe it is worse than any other culture or race. We fight amongst ourselves. I don't believe in Uncle Toms or sellouts. What I do believein though is the fact that their are people out there that forget what our purposes are in life. Previously we looked out for each other. We would fight forentry and when we got in, we would hold the door open for others. Now we are so worried about self that we forget that others need opportunities as well. Butits like crabs in a bucket. We hate to see someone accomplish success ahead of us.

This point was made before but I will speak on it again. No matter how much money you have, white people and other races will think you are still below them.

griz, we should also issue the notion of acting white or selling out in the black community. Many people-not all, but many people, are believe in the idea thatif you educate yourself and attempt to better yourself you're selling your blackness out. its such a shame

i have a black friend, who in his algebra 2 class, is constantly made fun of byhis peers because he get's A. they're always like, "harry, you think you're smart or something?" Disgusting.

I am not sure what "Acting Black" is. I'm not sure where it came from. My granny has always said "No matter how much money youmay have, you should still perform well in school, have manors, dress well, etc." For some idiotic reason we have been brainwashed to believe that lowincome, bad grades, broken English, etc is synonymous with being black. Its not. But I will say this, no matter what path one chooses in life, he/she shouldnot be penalized for attempting to fit into a group that they choose.
