i just bought my first blue ray player and was wondering how do you make a dvd movie fit the screen?

i just bought my first blue ray player and was wondering how do you make a dvd movie fit the screen?

It has to do with your TV.
With ours it's on the picture menu, then put it on full, or whichever option fits your screen.

i tried that but there was one where it doesnt fill the screen and it shows arrows that it looks like you have to manually do it? if i recall when renting movies there were some that already filled the screen..

Are you talking about the black bars on top and bottom? If your are, you should just deal with it because those bars are there to preserve the correct aspect ratio of whatever movie you're watching. If you really want to fill the whole screen up, I'm sure your tv has some kind of zoom/wide zoom option that would do the trick. But doing so will crop out some of the image and also hurt the resolution too.

^ Which DVD movie is it? Look at the back of the DVD box and see what the aspect ratio is... if its 1.85-1, it should fit perfectly. Anything above that (like 2.35-1), you'll still see the black bars at the top and bottom. It's supposed to look like that. At the same time, if the DVD is 4-3, you'll see the black bars on the sides, which is normal as well.

I wish I could help you but I don't have a blue ray player. I have a blu-ray player. Let me know when the blue ray players come out though. Gotta keep an eye out for those.

i just played an old dvd and it fit the whole screen... the movie i played was white men cant jump it shows aspect ratio 1.85:1...
do alot of new movies dont support full screen?

Depends on the DVD... it'll say "Enhanced for widescreen TV's" or something like that. 1.85:1 is 16x9... it should fit perfectly on your TV, which it appears it does. Your blu-ray player should be fine.
All the new DVDs should be enhanced for widescreen TV's. Some older DVD's might not.
