Breaking up and getting back together?

Girl and I were dating and we cut it of form reasons I still don't even know. She says she wants to get back together but needs some time to make sure and that she doesn't "hurt" me again.

It's a cop out right?

I honestly like this girl but I'm not about to be waiting around cause I feel like there I no chance but if we could make it work i would defientally want to

Anyone else ever been in a similar situation
