Broken hand question...

Yesterday I broke my 5th metacarpal on my right hand and I was told by the ER doctor that all he could do was put it in a soft cast and give me some vicodinebecause in his opinion upon seeing the x-rays I need to get a referral from my primary doctor to see an orthopedist to get surgery cuz they have to put a rodin my hand. This sucks cuz I have to wait more than 48 hours just to get the referral and then who knows how long till surgery. Has anyone had this type ofinjury?

I'm lefty so not all is lost lol but I find it real sad when I was in an er room and the avg waiting time was 4-5 hours to see a doctor. I saw this onechic who had a severe laceration to her chin and a dislocated jaw and she had to wait 7 hours to see a doctor. No pics of my injury although my co-workeralmost puked when he saw the bone sticking out from the top of my hand and the blood gushing anytime I moved it a little.

Boxers fracture? What did you punch? I broke mine a few years back and had to endure weeks of pain. From reducing the fracture, to learning to use my left handto having an uncomfortable cast on your hand. I feel your pain (pun intended).

I had a different type of injury but with the same kind of waiting and waiting. I had an anterior process fracture of my Talus. My friend and I were playingbasketball, he crossed me, my right foot stayed planted and I lost my balance and fell to the right. I heard a loud pop, but it didn't hurt like I wouldhave expected a bone fracture to. I got up and tried to walk and that's when I had a shooting pain in my foot. I tried to play some more but couldn't.I wasn't sure if it was just a bad ankle sprain, but after 4 hours when it still hurt I went to the ER. They said it was fractured, but to get a cast i hadto go to my PCP. The PCP said there was no fracture, and sent me to get a CT Scan. The CT Scan confirmed the fracture, and sent me to the hospital to get acast. This whole process took about 4-5 days, so I was in a soft splint with a broken ankle.

I broke my left hand last November. Here are some pics...

I was hoopin with a few cats at the gym. Ran after a loose ball, caught it, quickly turned around and swung a pass to an open man under the goal, but someguy's head was in the way and I decked him across the face. I broke my hand, and he had a concussion

I got surgery and they placed I think it was 6 pins through a pin holder into the place.

After pic:

Took about a good 2 months before I was completely out of a cast. All muscle mass and strength needless to say, deteriorated.

I'm a righty btw.
