I have a million ideas but wanted to see what the general consensus was.

I ask b/c I'm in the process of creating my own classifieds site (still in BETA) with the intention of tackling some common issues and I wanted to see if the general consensus was in line with mine.

Mine:
- ease of use, maps and other common tools would be added value
- a system that allows user credibility
- a system that effectively defines the types of users and the types of ads that are posted
- filtering
- global and local search
- interoperability with other social sites (ie: FB, Twitter)

What else would you think is missing from existing classifieds sites?

damn thats harsh. they blocked the word - Sole_Collector. I guess I've gotta get more creative. LOL

Some way to find your item without having someone using the tag on a completely diff item. Impossible to stop, but its annoying when you looking for car stuff and sneakers pop up.

that's a good point...hadn't thought of that one.

That's why I gotta get in at the ground level ... either way there's no money in a CL like website, since there's no ad revenue.. It's all for name recognition, you gotta have facemash before you get to facebook

Well, that's not entirely true. CL makes their ridiculous sums of money because of their ads (which are not really 'displayed' or 'marketed' as ads).

I think there is, potentially, a healthy revenue stream that could come from a classifieds website that is fair and is transparent and cheap enough to get businesses interested. I have a few ideas on getting there, I just have no idea where (or how) to start.

If you are truly interested, though, and have something to offer, send me a PM and maybe we can get something going.
