long story short I am in the market for a used vehicle.. i offered a dealer $22k cash out the door on a car that is listed at $23,999.. I was denied.

I do not feel my offer was low, i felt and feel it was/is very reasonable

What are your thoughts, as well as experience with dealer dealing?

its not really reasonable considering there's about $2500 in tax and title fees that brings the car to 26.5 OTD

With 22k cash you can get an amazing deal on a used car from someone privately. You should try looking around for that same car from someone, I bet it'll be easily obtainable (if it's available) for your price range. So many people these days are selling barely used cars for steals because they can't afford them, this puts you in a huge advantage buying privately.

I had a $20k budget a couple of months ago and found some insane deals, but I ended up buying something that was a better fit for me, and saved $10k on a 2 year old car with less than 20k miles, that came with lots of extras.

The seller can even lie about the selling price and you can save an easy thousand on taxes..

don't buy used cars from dealers, always private, unless it's a lease of sorts.

Shop around, check KBB and the other standard for car values that the dealers use. Be willing to walk away and not look back. Find competitor prices and everything. Go in there w/ all the knowledge and know your stuff and you'll be good.

Used car dealers make their money on financing. You paying cash weakened your negotiating position.

If you don't mind the credit ding just let them finance you and pay it off immediately.

best time to get deals is end of the year. dealerships always give good deals to meet quotas.

I've been looking at used cars as well. I don't know what it is with used cars, dealers just win't budge, not even a little. :lol.
I've offered all cash OTD on their asking price, but they still say no.
