Raiders Cut Former Top Pick JaMarcus Russell
Posted: 12:58 pm PDT May 6, 2010

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders have released former No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell after three unproductive and highly paid seasons. Senior executive John Herrera told The Associated Press the move was made Thursday and that "we wish him well." The decision comes less than two weeks after Oakland acquired Jason Campbell from Washington to take over at quarterback.Russell will now likely be considered the biggest draft bust in NFLhistory. He will have been paid more than $39 million by the Raiders, while producing only seven wins as a starter. He lost hisstarting job midway through last season. His career has been hamperedby a rookie holdout, poor work habits, being overweight and the lack ofproductive players around him.

$5.5M per win.

I would like to see what a real organization with real coaching could do with him.

Whats next for him?

Can't imagine anyone beating his door down. If I was the Bills I'd have a look see for cheap. No one else comes to mind. Maybe San Fran. I think Singletary could probably do with him, what he did with Vernon.

Dude really doesn't have to work anymore. He walks away with $39 million. Hell, time to retire.

Unless he's stupid, and we will see "Bankruptcy headlines" 5 years from now.

Idk man, I kinda think that too. But, seems to me that he just isn't hungry anymore. Like, he feels like he made it, so he's just going to coast. Hopefully, if he were to get another shot, he'll get coached like Jimbo did @ LSU and ride his $%#/push him and won't allow him to settle. But I'm afriad that even THAT might not work. But who knows. Wish him the best and hope that he's smart w/ his money, should he not make it back in the L.

I'm pretty confident in saying that there isn't a coach in the league lobbying to sign him, even as a backup.

dudes always comin in talking about his "skill set" do any of you ou even watch raiders games, hell even football games? Dude has a skill for being able to tell you all restaurants located within a 25 mile radius of each nfl stadium but ask him to read a defense or do more than 10 sit ups and its a wrap. He does have a good arm though maybe he can get a job selling hot dogs in a stadium.

jamarcus would be peggin fans in the head left and right with those bags of peanuts

Now he can gain another 50lbs and become a all-pro LT like he should of done all along. Or a FB.
