I've been wanting to become a bartender for a while now. Are there any bartenders on here? Would the best way to become a bartender be by going tobartending school? And do you guys happen to know any good bartending schools? (Preferrably in Orange County)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did the bartending school thing, the stuff you hear about it being wack isnt really true, but I would still say the best way to really learn the trade is toget hired as a barback or be real cool with the bartenders at the restaurant you work at. There's nothing like being behind the bar though, its OD fun aslong as you know what you're doing and can handle pressure. The two most important things I can tell you is don't suck and don't be boring.

my boy does it..

go to bartending school (forgot how long)..
get a certificate..

but no one's going to hire a n00b...

that's what i'm afraid of. going to bartending school and not being able to get a job because i dont have any experience

About a year back I started working at this Mexican restaurant near my school as a cashier. The only bartender they had moved to Miami to open up his own spotand they offered me the position. I took it in a heartbeat and learned on the job with no training. Most of it is common sense and you always have guides tohelp you along the way. The money is GREAT, the environment is GREAT, the networking is GREAT, and lol the women hahaha lets just say....

whenyour the bartender. Now I feel like I am a very good bartender and can do this as a side job apart from my career and potentially earn 10-15k additionally ayear working weekends in Atlanta. There is nothing like onsite training because I have no doubt I can get a job. Now im not gonna sit here and say i can throwliquor bottles in the air and do all that flashy stuff they do at clubs, but i have picked up a few natural tricks that have made me a faster bartender. let meknow if you have any questions....

Bartending = cash = woman, and a pretty good living

ptretty much try and get hired as a bar back and start to learn behind the bar that how i got started, and while i was doin that i read and read and study andstudy, to me its a craft and i love doin this,

i only barbacked for 3 months at a hotel before becoming a bartender, i work at a hotel now doin banquets its very ez job for me im fast and people llike me

Bar tending school is a scam. Pay your dues as a bus boy/bar back.

i'm getting trained as a bartender right now where i work. really hard at first because you feel pressured but it's all memorization and speed. after awhile you get the hang of it and everything will come naturally.

i'm only having trouble with drinks with nicknames. i have no idea sometimes what the drinks some of these people order are.

and skip bartending school. i started off as a barback when they were busy in the bar (i work as a waiter) and after a while they offered me a few bartendingshifts.

I would love to work as a bartender!!

hey, how much do you guys make on average from tips?? and do bartenders at clubs take home what they get, or do they all pool it together and then divide itevenly?

i heard bartending school is a waste of money and you dont need a certicate.............i just found that out this year

does it vary by state or something?

real talk........i know people who bar tend......they just get experience.....

Bartending school is a bunch of ##!*.

Don't waste your time or your money.

The only thing they teach you that's of any value is how to make girly shots. Good to know when drunk broads don't know what to order, but, other thanthat... useless.

Find a local bar and see if you can get in good with the owner or head bartender. Like others have said, start barbacking and learn.

Gotta be personable with a good memory for names, faces, and favorite drinks.

that's what i was wondering.

1. bartending school is a waste of money, real talk. Most bar's will pay for your certification.

2. Start as a barback, that way you learn from an experienced bartender. Its hard work..but its the best way to learn imo...watching others then practicing.

3. tips, man... you can walk away with some nice money, depends on the facility. If you work at a restaurant..you make good money from tips outs..for justmaking drinks for others at tables.

well ill just go ahead and say it.......
Im a full time student with 18 hours

I work 15 hours a week
Thur, Fri Sat from 5-10
I come home with 400 cash weekly

400/15= 26.6

i work at a country club so it really varies. one group one day can be really young and outgoing = bank or they can be old and boring = caca.

most i made in one night 200, least 4 dollars

I'm a bartender been doing it for a few years now. DO NOT GO TO BARTENDING SCHOOL and if you do don't tell anyone that you did it will get you nowhere.Just try to get a barback gig and work your way up.

what type of establishments usually have barbacks? cause i've seen a lot of places where its just the bartender working without any barbacks

technically, u don't have to go to bartending school. it's just easier to get a job if u do. but if u know how to mix drinks already, u just have tofind a spot that' willing to give u a chance. bet advice i can give u is this: it's not about how your drinks are, it's all about customer service.if u make the customer feel like they're special (hard to do in a crowded club-like atmosphere), they'll forgive u if ur drinks suck.

Lol at all the hate on bartending schools. It is not like your normal school or anything...it is simply a place you go where you can practice, learn, andunderstand how to make drinks properly. Another way would be to work at a restaurant etc etc. I went to bartending school and ye, job wise, it is semiuseless....but the learning how to hold the bottles, the counts, the drinks etc etc etc REALLLLLLLLY helped. It is much better to get the experience in thatsetting than on the job. It is hella stressful trying to remember drinks, etc when you don't know them. Additionally, most schools, once you pay for it youcan go back forever and practice at that location. I got a gig bartending at weddings through a catering company through sheer luck and good looks. Personally,I would recommend working as a waiter/barback/etc anything at a restaurant or wherever and trying to move up to be the bartender. Getting a bartender gig ispretty hard to do otherwise.

From what I know, starting as a barback is the best way to go. But man, that @@$+ is some hard work. Barbacks get nice pay too though.
