I have my BS in an unrelated field. I'm looking into possibly getting a Masters in Business or Computer Science. Either that, or I've considered getting certifications such as CCNA, C++, etc.Could some of you possibly school me on which ones are the most valuable to have, where to go about getting them, and what jobs (IT, software engineering) they'd open up for me? I'm pretty good with computers, can troubleshoot personal problems and issues with my family and friends' computers, but I'd like to take it to the next level and get some formal training that would qualify me for some decent jobs with decent pay.

I'm making jack right now working a Thurs-Mon schedule at a stressful job with no opportunity for advancement and basically no redeeming characteristics about the job period. It's time for a change, whether IT, business, or whatever, I just need to make moves quick.

Would very much appreciate some feedback on how to go about doing this.

CompTIA A+ is good start, it can open a lot of doors, super easy to get too.
It's entry level.

COMPTIA is gargbage you can get that at the Airport from the sand people for 100.00 and its lifetime

i could use some information on this too.  thinking about taking some courses in web design.

CCNA is def the way to go unless you want to be a systems guy. I currently have my CCNA, Security+, and Network+ certs and I am a contractor overseas. So I know a bit about the hustle and struggle to get these certs. I am currently lined up to do and complete the following by April. CCNA Security, MCP(one exam anyways), VCP, and CCNP.

I can't begin to tell you how much prep work it takes, but on payday it is so damn worth it, when you get in the field.

CCNA is def a good start, A+ may be good for you since your major is unrelated, but for someone like me probably not needed. Security + would be good also.

OP you seriously got to narrow it down to what you want to specialize in specifically.

CCNA and C++ are 2 completely different lines of work.

CCNA you better know how to subnet or your going to have a hard time passing the CCNA.

Cisco right now is starting to get to crowded now like what Microsoft certs have become in the IT industry. So many people have CCNA's now.You literally need to have experience or at least a CCNP if you intended to work in that job area in a nice city here in the US.

Security+ is a must have cert if you intend to work for the government or on DOD private government contracts for companies like Lockheed Martin or Northrop Grumman.

But the higher security cert where not to many people have the cert is the CISSP cert.
