Can I get penalized? (Job situation)

Well I asked my boss if I could take the day off because I had to take care of something and gave him a 4-day notice ahead of time. (It's 5 days ahead to request a personal time but was more last minute). So he asked me if I can get someone to switch with, which I eventually got a co-worker to cover my shift but tells me today that he can't make it because he has something last minute to do. I tried working with my boss to give me the day but he denied my request and says I have to come in. I have sick days and I wanted to just use my sick day and say I'm not "feeling good". I mean he can assume that that's a coincidence but he can't assume if I'm really faking it or not. My question is, can I get penalized for something like this? I'm in a union by the way.

Since you have sick days, use em before you lose em.

Know im talmboouuutttttt

I think if they found out you lied about being sick, it can be grounds for termination, but they can't really question you about it. If your boss is a jerk though, could make things more difficult for you in the future since he doesn't trust you anymore. If you're pretty confident you won't get caught, then I would just go ahead and call in sick.

If this is a job you care about I wouldn't do this. Your union head will probably tell you not to do anything that could put you in harm's way as well.

Op I would just go in to work. Unless its super important, don't make things weird at work.

Some bosses don't let grudges go.

G...my fault for never pm'ing you back kid....I just saw you pm'd me a while back :lol You know guyanese time is always late.

But like others have said....having a job is a blessing right now, even though you got those sick days save them if your taking the time off for something that you really don't need to. It may suck but if you like your job don't give your boss a reason to fire you. If you need to take the day off and you didn't give your boss a specific reason before just tell him it's a religious holiday for you or it's a really special occasion and see if your boss buys that.

GL.

It's all good. Good to see a fellow GT here lol. Yea I'm just going to go in and avoid any serious consequences because this is definitely a job I appreciate.

If you have the sick days they can't tell you anything for using them. But it also depends what kind of union you have cause some of them don't step up for you , they're just there to take your dues
