Can Tumbled Leather Lose Its Texture Over Time?

I recently purchased a pair of og laney 5's and theyre pretty beat. the only thing that sorta throws me off is that the tumbled leather on the back has become completely smooth except for in small areas. it makes me think they are fakes and i want to make sure theyre not before i try restoring them. is it possible for the tumbled leather to lose its texture over the years as it gets  more worn out? please let me know down below. thanks!

Yes, in some cases it can stretch out or become a bit smoother over time. It still retains a tumbled look, at least compared to normal smooth leather.

That pair however looks a little suspect, I hope you didn't pay much for those. That PU midsole is done.
