sorry for yet another "what to do in this city thread today"
but I'm going to be there around the 4th of July, and wanted to know about some shops.
no sneaker shops though. I want to know about some good Thrift Stores around the area and some nice clothing stores. I'm looking to stock up on ties andpants while I'm there on my parents wallet.
so any help is appreciated, i'll check back in the morning it's getting late

i think that's the right word....do yall not have any thrift stores there?
it's pretty much like a garage sale, i figured in a bigger city there would be better stuff.

Thrift stores such a Salvation Army?. There is a thrift store on Lawrence and Kimball and somewhere on Clark & between the streets of Lawrenceand Foster (I don't know which street).

you got the word right OP, just funny to see the exact opposite response of what a thrift store is...

i think thrift stores are more of a suburban thing...iuno, maybe not. I'm sure you can find some if you take the subway out a bit.

this is leaders...

okay i'll just ask around in the mall to find exact locations.
are there any brand name stores like LV or Gucci, or are they just sold in department stores

They have high end stores like Gucci (which was pretty big compare to other Gucci stores I been in), LV, major dept. store that sell high products too.
Look up The Magnificent Mile - North Michigan Avenue... plenty of places to go shopping.

My real question is... why would anyone want to do any shopping in Chicago where the sale tax is 10%!

i'll def look it up.
and dang i did not know that, it's 8% here not to big of a difference but still that's gonna be hard.

In the city you're more likely to come across consignment stores. Which are a step above thrifts. And to the people laughing, you can find some killer *@$at these places. Where do you think some ebay sellers get the merchandise from? Hawaiian shirts that go for well over $500 can be had at thrift stores. Not tomention old school kicks. But you need to know what you're looking for.

I want to say there are some in the lincoln park neighborhood, but I could be wrong. I'm not from the chi but I knew a few folks there - and they also soldon eBay so they'd talk about their haunts. I'm sure google would help you with this endeavor. And the Mag Mile for the other stores.

6% here seems like just yesterday it was 5% and nearby (Delaware, 0%

) SOooooooo I mean it doesn't seem like much but it adds up, I cop something that cost $400 bucks, so on top of that it was $40 bucks more Icould have used for something else... after a bit of some serious shopping a 10% here a 10% there adds up. I'm sure when you out on Vacay, you havedesignated spending money and it doesn't "matter" or if you have the money it dont matter but to me it still does... specially when I know itssomething I can get elsewhere for less.
