Seems my original post didn't make it through -

My girl is inheriting a '66 Impala Wagon, with a Camaro motor in it. It's a beater and hasn't run in quite a few years, so not sure on the engine issues. I wanted to start a project on it and turn it into a Street Rod. I don't know much about Classic American cars - and just looking for some input. I'm not looking to sell it after it's built, I just want a cool cruiser to roll around in - maybe do a couple of 1/4 runs, if the engine turns out strong. Car is in Phx and have to drive from the bay to pick it up - prob in a couple months, so I have time to plan.

If you have any forums that you'd like to put me on to, please share.

Any advice or tips before embarking, that'd be great too... if the turnout and response goes well, may be able to just make this a classic car thread.

Question right now related to the rims. I like the two styles below. Prefer in a black or gunmetal:

First wheel looks like Torq Thrusts. Not sure which Torq Thrust it is specifically, though.

I'd perfer seaching Craigslist for some original hubcaps for the '66 seeing that its a station wagon. But, it isnt my car and if I had to choose from the two I would perfer the first ones. I believe they're called American Racing Torque rims. The engine is a issue because all Chevys shared similar motors its easier to find one. Just find a 305, 307, 327, 350, 396, etc depending on the power you want. You can find them cheap on eBay or Craigslist.

Air - I don't like hubcaps, at all - The general style I'm going for is kiiiinda between the two pics below. I am hoping that the engine ends up usable.. from what I understand, there's a 454 in there. I could be wrong tho.

Rims is da last thing u should worry about...takeit to a body shop & find/eliminate

this. although i dont think rust will be an issue being that the car is in AZ.

im from the bay too and i bought my 68 falcon in AZ also. cars from out there will have minimal surface rust.

If we can get this poppin' on a classic car thread that would be dope. Im planning on overhauling a 67 Lincoln with my pops. He has completely rebuilt his 73 Buick Le Saber and it turns head every where I drive it. Im really looking into getting a fixer upper in the next few months. Hopefully a Chevy Caprice or a Chevelle. Only thing is the prices are driven way up unless you can find someone who inherited the car without knowing what they're sitting on...

Anyways, good luck with your car and keep us updated.

Def will post pics once it's local, 940. Nice Falcon, too man! I'd say judging by the picture, exterior is about similar condition. There is one rear panel that had a gash in it, but the rest of the body is pretty straight. There was not any noticeable rust, at all. I never popped the hood, but the interior is alright - manageable, but definitely not perfect.

I'm with you, Ninja - but, since I can't plan anything deeper until I understand everything that needs to be done (what's usable, what needs replacement), I'm just sketchin (PS'n) what I ultimately want the wagon to look like.

Man a 454 is a def gas guzzler. Im a Camaro guy I have a stock 350 in my '74, and a stock 305 in my '80 and they drink gas like nothing. I love the rims on it after seeing the pic. Since its from AZ it wont have a lot of rust either so thats a positive.
