i am trying to help a friend correct some issues with his computer
he is running vista home edition
i d/l'ed nod32 and was running a virus scan
i also at the same time was installing mcafee
the computer then froze.
i rebooted the computer and now it always freezes about 5-10 min after start up.
even freezes at the prompt welcome enter the password if you let it sit
the computer runs fine in safe mode.
i thought it might be an anti virus program causing the hang up.
went to msconfig and disabled everything and it is still freezing!!!
anyone help on a possible solution?
googled and cant seem to find a solution

but yea, u might have to re-format.

Maybe there isn't enough memory.

Wait...

You were installing an antivirus while running ANOTHER antivirus?

You're obviously going to encounter a hiccup pulling a stunt like that.

Boot in safe mode with networking.
Run task Manager and see which processes are running.
Reboot in Normal Mode. Run Msconfig. and disable anything that wasn't running in safe mode.
Reboot.
Run MsConfig. Add one thing back to start up.
Reboot.
If it freezes. Then you found what is causing it to freeze. If not. Add one more thing back to start up and do the same thing over again until you find it.

OR

Reformat and install Win7 or XP

not the simple soluitions i was looking for but i will attempt a re format instead
atleast none of you were saying the mother board was crashing as some of the other google searches were pulling up

Why the hell would you install TWO memory hogs? Pick ONE good virus protection, and you might need more RAM

dang wanted to see if there anything else i could do for him other than re format.
hopefully it isnt a hardware issue, thanks for your inputs!
