i have a laptop it has a 250 gig hd it says i have 221 available gigs (which i understand they use for random stuff kind of like when u buy a 30 gig ipod itsonly 27) thats not the problem the only thing ive ever used my computer for is music and vid downloading its got about 200 pics on it and all of that is in myitunes ive added all of the gigs up and it comes out to like 121 gigs of music and vid i go throw my comp and delete the stuff i dont use all the time andother stuff clear out the recycling bin etc. heres the problem it says i only have 4 gigs of space left so where did 100+ gigs of space go?

you can't add all of the capacity you think you've stored to get the actual capacity used.

when you store data on your drive, you use up partial blocks/sectors. even if you don't use the entire block, it gets counted by your operating system as aused block. do this enough times and eventually you will run out of space.

defragmenting can help regain some of the lost capacity, but your best bet is to to get extra storage. (think Seagate
