So basically, my wallpaper on my laptop isn't showing up. I've heard this is a common problem with Windows 7, any ideas how to fix it?

Get a Mac.

Common reasons:

Non-authenticated version of Win7
Running WoW in anything other than Compatibility Mode
Non Windows driver software (although I'd assume if you're using those then you know a bit about computers)

Windows is supposed to be working on a fix for this, but so far the reasons above are ones I can remember that you can fix. For now, though, logging out and then back in or rebooting should fix it temporarily.
