Hello i was trying to install a AGP 256MB DDR(Video card-AGP)...made by the diamond(graphics courtesy of ATI)....
Now..i put in the video card where it is suppose to go,and i do not see my screen if i connect my monitor into the new video-insert.

Is it my monitor? Is it the brown thing where i connect the AGP?....The computer doesn't detect the Device either(AGP)..but the fan keeps going so i guessit is getting some type of energy, supplied by the computer.

Can someone please help me...

.Thank you for all help.

PM..me too if you need.I know relatively little computer knowledge but i get around too.
Ask me questions 'bout it..if i was to vague.

Lol. PCI Express is what is used now adays. AGP is a long time ago. But anyways Im pretty sure you have to go into the bios to change the graphicssetting on your motherboard.

did the card go in easily? are you sure its an AGP slot or did you force it into another slot (hard to do but ive seen it).
is there one or two DVI or VGA connectors in the back of the card? try the 2nd one if theres 2, sometimes they're flipped around and the primary displaygoes in the 2nd connector.
the fan spins on the card if there is one? is there an auxilliary power connector on the card that you need to plug a power supply cable in to? if it has a bigfan/heatsink then it might need extra power.

is your monitor set to the right input mode? VGA if its a blue cable, DVI if its a white one? could be as simple as that.

(south)Ok...but i put in the video card into the slot...isn't the computer suppose to pick it up?
i also installed the disc that came with it...and it said "harddrive that comes with disc can not be found"
what can i do?
Thanks alot.

If your computer is from 00-03 I highly doubt you have to set it to see the card in your bios. Make sure that its seated properly so that the brown tablocks(not the actually slot, there's a tab that should snap onto the card when its seated properly). Do you hear any beeping when you start the computerup? If not chances are you have a loose connection going from the card to the monitor or it may be the card.

i also installed the disc that came with it...and it said "harddrive that comes with disc can not be found"

Huh? You also bought a hard drive?

lol that error message makes no sense at all..
drivers should not be necessary just to get a basic low res display... only to get the most out of your card

well i kinda said hjarddrive for a lack of words...second il put in the video card
il shut it down..brb

That's a good point about the power supply. OP what card do you have exactly?

if he did this on carpet

"Setup was unable to find components that can be installed on your current hardware of software configuration. Please make sure you have required hardwareof software"

^Exact message recieved....what about if i did this on carpet?

The video card is in the brown slot(yes it did make a click noise when it was fully in)...no it did not beep when i turned it on....the name is Radeon 9550 bydiamond stealth

The vga plug is not connected to the new video card...it is connected to the one that came with the computer.

again if i am being to vague or saying something wrong or something not correct...please correct me or question me...sorry for the inconvenience and thanks forall the help.

ic, so you have onboard video right now right? or do you have an old video card that you're about to throw out. im guessing onboard since you probably onlyhave 1 agp slot and i doubt your old card is PCI unless your going real old school.

you might have to go into your bios and look under video or display settings and disable onboard video in order to use your agp card... i could be wrong thoughand its hard for me to guide you through that because there are so many different bios versions

yes 1 agp slot...i have the vga plug..plugged in the onboard video.

I understand but if i disable the video settings and disable the onboard video and use my AGP card...and it still doesn't work...what do i do?
The thing that is bugging me...wouldn't the computer detect the video card?...like "new hardware" or something.

yeah that is a bit weird actually.. you should see the new card pop up in device manager. try right clicking my computer -> manage -> device manager doyou see any video cards pop up with a yellow ? beside it?

you should remove the current video card driver in the device manage before you put that video card in.

First...to 2o4...i don't have a current video card...i have the onboard video.
Now to rtask...in the device manager yes i see a question with yellow but by the
"other devices"...then +...(to)...-.....i see ?+!=(?!)
"?!Multimedia audio controller"
"?! sm bus controller"
"?!Universal serial bus (usb) controller"
"?!Video controller(VGA Controller"

Nothing else

well the onboard should have a driver
it should be under display adapter. if you see it, right click it then remove it.
then it will request you to reboot but dont, instead shut down your machine.
next pop open the tower and remove the case, install the new video card.
start up the pc, go into the bios, in the advanced tab(i think) you gotta set it to be agp (not sure since your bios is different)
exit and save the changes, it should restart. then yeah it should run at the regular vga mod 640x480.
go back into device manage right click the new video card if it detects it there, then update the driver with the cd that came with it.

video VGA controller is either your current onboard video or your agp card.. either way it has no drivers installed.
you can try to update the drivers for that, and point it towards your video card disc, where the drivers are located.

try unplugging your agp card and going back into device manager. does it still show 'video vga controller'?
if it does, then device manager is referring to your current onboard video.

if it doesnt, then its your agp card, and windows seems to be able to detect it just fine.
if this is the case, try going into the bios and changing the video from onboard -> agp, or disable onboard video and see what happens w/ the new agp cardplugged in

OK...so both of you are(kind of) saying to go to BIOS and switch from onboard--->AGP...correct?

EDIT-i went to the screen(normal screen..desktop)...i right clicked..then went to
properties-->settings-->advanced(lower right)-->adapter(no adapter info whatsoever...properties it just says as driver "VGASAVE"...what doesthis mean?
