Just curious about what you guys do..

I have old install files for Windows 98, NT, and 2K.
any of you keep them for that "just in case" situation?

I've got a box full of them. I go back to Windows 95 too.

Really, I should only keep the most recent full install - with the upgrade disks. Been meaning to clear that box out.

Keep them for collection purposes.

Useless keeping those around as Windows XP is the standard old OS because of the stability, ease of use and almost no compatibility issues.
To answer your question I throw out my 95, 98 and ME Cd's already. I have Windows XP for just in case purposes but Windows 7 seems to be good (running itsince October).

I feel like taking a mega old computer and installing 98 or something just so that I can play with this old version of AutoCAD that I have

I still have my Windows 3.1 floppies, a windows 95 boot disk, etc.
I think at this point they aren't for "just-in-case" scenarios anymore, they're nostalgic....

I tried to get my old laptop working recently that I found - it's the one the 95 disk is for. It was top of the range in 1995!

Can't get it though. Just thought it would have been fun.

I have all my windows xp install files backed up on CD's. The operating systems you have are rather old, and there's nothing that will work on those,that won't work on windows XP or the latest system you have. Besides, I'm not even sure the drivers on those older operating systems will work withnewer hardware.

my boss had an old copy of Win95 and decided to run it one day..

not that much of a diff from win7.. says the mac user.

You know, if you got install files from previous OS's that you've upgraded from you can delete them. Just use the windows cleanup tool. But really youshould do a clean install. It's not that hard...a fresh install of windows will greatly improve your computers performance and reliability.

I never look back when I install a new OS. I don't even regularly backup my system, only some important files. I know it's gonna come back and bite mein the +!+.

i have an old box full of floppies somewhere with that stuff on.... collecting dust.

you can install them but chances are it'll run into issues with the size of the hard drive, amount of memory and stuff like that

I've got mine in a CD case. Still have the floppies for DOOM II
