any help greatly appreciated.. thanks.

It's funny (well kind of not) but I'm experiencing the exact same problem right now and I have no idea what to do. I went to repair it using theWindows XP disk and I followed each of the instructions to a T but the damn computer keeps rebooting. Ugh!

Do NOT format your drive. Some people don't realize that "format" is tech talk for erase/clear.

You should be able to plug your drive in as a slave to another computer and get the files off of there.

If you can't do that, you can always take it to a data recovery service - they will be super expensive but they can almost always get your data back foryou.

How old is your computer and what brand? Did you install or change anything? It might be your harddrive

are you getting BSOD? Sometimes it could be harddrive controllers.

Makes me think back to my Vaio horror story. Check the sig, get one and be happy.

good news: your data is probably OK. if those don't help, take your drive to a friend's house to get your data off.

yo thanks alot man.. how would i go about doing this^^ i have alot of pictures that would just kill me if they get deleted..
I solved this same problem this summer, tricky virus.
What you do is plug your hard drive into a friends computer BUT TO NOT TRANSFER YOUR FILES YET, don't even click inside to make sure everything is therebecause it most likely is. Now that your hard drive is plugged in use his virus protection software to scan your hard drive, after it has cleaned it up (itonly deletes the problems that could spread) dump your files onto your friends HD. At this point is when you format, then reinstall windows onto yourharddrive, then get your files back from your friends computer. Make sure you get the drives for your computer so it can output sound as well as use theethernet port to access the internet.Your pc's symptoms are identical to my friend's you probably got hit with an NT ad virus (the ads on here arenuts) so get firefox then download a firefox addon called adblock plus, install that and you should be good.

The good thing is, your hard drive doesn't have cancer, your files are safe.
Find someone who knows what they're doing to take you hard drive out of your pc and put into your friend's at school are ask people you know if theycan think of anyone with that skill.
