I did some dumb *%%! on my computer and now when i try to open windows explorer the blue screen of death comes up and it says registry error. Then it restarts. Never did this before. Help a stressed brotha out

I opened a zipped folder with windows explorer, idk why i did it dont ask, then it started goin crazy, i turned it off and turned it back on and now it starts doing what i mentioned above, im runnin on vista and its a hp computer

this
make a ubuntu cd/usb using another machine
get a usb stick or external hd and transfer,
boot up using the cd/usb stick you made,
look for the files you need on your hard drive & transfer them over to your spare usb stick or external drive,
then get a vista disc & reinstall it on your machines hard drive
make sure you get a good antivirus program and turn off autorun before inserting the usb stick or external drive with your media on it into your computer once you reinstall nasty vista

Just restore your pc to an earlier time. restart your pc, hold f8, select safe mode with networking, wait until it boots, then navigate: start menu, programs, accessories, system tools, then select "system restore". and Restore your pc to a date prior to when these issues began. Your programs and files youve installed since then wont be affected. Its mainly a Registry restoring application.

Came in here to post this. I was amazed that no one had suggested a system restore.
By far the easiest and most effective way to restore a system. Glad someone posted that Ubuntu link, though. I've been meaning to create a ubuntu stick and just haven't ever bothered to look up the directions.
