Well i was thinking that in order to save the NBA players leaving overseas and leaving us basketball-less, us the fans, create a league.
Or we can start individual teams.

We do it in the way the Green Bay Packers do it (i did a little research), a non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team/ or league.

Its worked for the Packers and I think i'd be great! the weak teams would die out and the ones with support would stick around. Of course this is over-simplified, but i think it'd be cool. Especially for us folk in Seattle who not only don't have a team anymore, but no NBA

My immediate dream would be a fan owned league of like 6 teams. We wouldn't need superstars (well we would, but they'd probably go overseas), unless they really wanted to join and stay in the states to ball. A league of B list and C list NBA players to grind it out on tours through out the country. Filthy! The fans would vote in a board of directors and they would organize it all.

At first it's exhibition matches, to see how things go, then set up real teams, set up a season, set up the playoffs, etc.

The fact that it'd be a non-profit would make so much sense. If it eventually turns a profit, the board could simply save it, for tough times .Like music and most things out there in the world, sports should be played for the love not the money. If you love it enough and work at it enough, the money will eventually come.

And i'll end my rant with this tid-bit of info that i found interesting, " The Packers are also the only American major-league sports franchise to release its financial balance sheet every year". No big for profit business politics. people would run these organizations for the love of the game. to motivate kids and give back to the community.

i can dream can't i...hah....i just can't stand not having basketball to watch man. Trailblazer basketball was so uplifting.

The NBA don't care about the FANS. Why should we save them?

We wouldn't save them. this would be for us, who love basketball and love watching it played at the highest level.
We wouldn't have world class stars, but we would have decent players on the squads (picture michael beasley being the mvp in the league for the first 3 years). then it would grow. It would be more exciting than college ball, that's all im looking for.

Should've bought their @@+*+ out to games then. Ol' ~14,000 attendance having $%% dudes still crying about not having a team? I wish Stern wouldn't have blocked the sale of the Hornets to anyone who wanted to move the team though. You guys should have them, once you update Key Arena of course.

Personally I'd love to do this kind of thing... Except to create a leauge in competition with the NBA

In all seriousness, as much as this could make sense theoretically, realistically it aint happenin. If players want to play for just the love of the game, we wouldn't be in this situation right now as it is.

People won't care about B and C list players. And "love of the game" might make a great ad, but it won't be realistic.

Then you said Michael Beasley as a 3-time MVP? I think that removes all possible support.. except from Michael Beasley maybe.

Players should jus' take this lockout to court. Maybe the judge will rule the lockout illegal.

Came in thinking this was gonna be about actually saving the NBA. If that was the case I'd say no, the NBA turned fans away from the game.

But a national publicly run league with city run teams? Interesting, but how many tax dollars or donations would it take to keep teams competitive? People have bigger problems to deal with than whether or not they have bragging rights over other cities. Throw in that it's nit just those cities that have fans. Surrounding 'burbs and towns have fans going to those games too, would their city contribute without being directly associated with said team? Not likely.

Good idea, but just a pipe dream.

Reminds me of the Al Bundy baseball strike episode. get sponsored by your local nudie bar.

Basketballless?

I've been watching basketball on TV for the past 2 weeks.

Let these two sides keep fighting. Could care less, actually glad they're both losing money.

Yes I do, and I have seen that lame documentary and website, even the owner/creator. Dude does NOT care about you guys or your plight. He's the biggest troll on the internet, and just pimps your heartbreak over the topic to get all of you's to send him money and fly him first class and buy him front row tickets to Thunder or Blazers games so he can sit there like a %$%$$*+ with his green and yellow on.

He posts on RealGM and InsideHoops if you want to talk to him. Like I said, complete douche and idiot, so might ruin your hero worship of him to do so.

We've discussed the myth of "bad" attendance for Sonics games time and again, and it's been debunked, no matter how much OKC fans try and spin it. But the truth is, even in their second to last season in Seattle, they were still at 94% capacity (16,000 per game). Your 14,000 per game figure didn't come into play until the final season when the new owners had finally driven the stake into the team's existence in Seattle. It turned enough fans off, but it's still more than 80% full, which is a lot more than some teams can claim these days.
