DULLES AIRPORT - Have a favorite holiday stuffing? Bread and sausage? Sage & onions perhaps.
Well a man from Guatemala is behind bars in Virginia for trying to smuggle a chicken stuffed with cocaine through a checkpoint at Dulles International Airport.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say during routine screening of passengers who had arrived from El Salvador an officer found something unexpected inside a suitcase. Hidden inside a fully-cooked chicken they found cocaine with an estimated street value of $4,300.
"I've been here for two years and I have seen some crazy things," said Charles Stunkle, a U.S. Customs and Border Officer.
"We've had drugs concealed in coffee and detergent, but our dogs are very well trained. They would have sniffed that out in a heartbeat."
Wagner Mauricio Linares Aragon, 32, was arrested and over to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police. Customs and Border Protection also issued a detainer for Linares Aragon.
Officers found the 60.4 grams (2.3 ounces) of white powder inside two small, clear plastic bags inside the chicken.
Tests later confirmed the officer's initial hunch that the substance was cocaine.
