By all the coverage of this gimmick, you would think so. Notice how there were no 3D tv's at CES this year.

Isn't this supposed to give everyone a better viewing angle no matter where you sit?

BTW they have curved screens at my movie theaters

I thought this was more prevalent on bigger, 4K tv's, at least 60" or bigger. I guess they are coming out with smaller ones now? I do think it will only make a difference on much, much bigger screens like in movie theaters as mentioned earlier.

But yeah, looks like a gimmick to me.

dumbest thing ever. it was nothing special in the first place, looked like crap IMO

For the first time since the death of CRT, numerous nonflat televisions will make it onto store shelves. But has the drive to differentiate and turn a profit bent these boob tubes far beyond beneficial?

CES had alot of em this year. it was a major focus. But its a gimmick. Unless youre talking 80"+ sized TVs ANNNNNNNND youre sitting =<10 feet away from it... theres absolutely no benefit. but even then, with you being enveloped by the picture like that.. your eyes and neck would be fatigued after only a couple hours. You cant take in the full picture at a size large enough to appreciate the curvature. And at sizes like 60" and under...u can take in the whole tv, in which the top and bottom edges look obviously distorted. aka...pointless.

and samsung had to take pointless to a whole new level already. they have a tv at CES that changes from flat to curved with a button. so u have an option LMAO whats the point!?

i guess ideally what you would want is a curved hd projection screen  thats big enough or adjustable to to wrap around your complete field of vision

Not needed unless your TV is massive. 60 inch +

Cinema screens are curved so your eyes are the same distance from all points of the screen providing your siting in a central position so that your eyes doesn't have to keep on refocusing if you look at different parts of the screen.


If you have a big curved TV then it can be more immersive if your sitting in the center but nothing game changing. I still need to see one in real life though.

No, unless you have a massive screen, then you'll have to be in a central location to see the picture. Think of it... you sit on the side of the room during the Superbowl and you're going to miss everything on the other half of the screen.

Gimmick. An early version of the curved projection screen TVs were sold in the late 70s and early 80s.

i havent even seen them advertised or the word 3D come out of anyones mouth in a year 1/2
