ok im new to the whole windows 7 so thats my excuse.

anyways brought family files over from a usb to my new comp.  seperated pictures from video.  i placed the pictures in my username pictures folder and they ended up also under the "libraries' pictures folder.  i deleted the pictures from the library pictures folder thinking once i deleted them from the recycle bin they would only get deleted from there and not my username pictures folder.  now they're both gone

i think they all got deleted because theyre the same file names in both folders.  Can anyone recommend any good data recovery software for pictures? this just happened an hour ago so hopefully this helps.  and no theyre not on the usb anymore.  that card was needed elsewhere.

thanks any and all.

encase is the tool we use in digital forensics for data recovery. There is a class to certify in it and I won't say its the easiest program to use.

I assumed you tried system restore also. Some people have had luck with recovering files that way but it's hit or miss. Also try this program http://www.piriform.com/recuva

no i havent tried that. system restore is nothing like system formatting is it?

where can i find system restore?  control panel?

Start Menu > Type System Restore in the search box. Not the same as formatting.

It's pretty cake from there. Just follow the prompts and pick a date prior to when your files where lost. I'd try the Recuva program first though.

NT listen to this man. he knows

recuva is a great program (its running now)
