I think one way to improve society is for mega rich comedians not to take money from an oppressive government to whitewash their image.
How does that improve society? Exactly how can you make that happen?

By complaining? You really THINK that’s one way? That’s where you want to start?

You’re not even being serious :lol

We admittedly live in a capitalist society but you want to decide for other ppl who and where they get money from. It’s okay when Dave wants to refuse hundreds of millions but now you want to choose where and from who he accepts it.

You know what that sounds like right?
This is honestly so stupid that I don’t think it’s worth responding to in a serious fashion.
Yes trying to shift the point to look how smart I am for pointing out you’re complaining about a society you take part in was very stupid.

It’s not about that at all.

Why did you even do it?

The thing is you can ALWAYS, "what about...." your own actions when someone calls you out on it. Sure, your whatabout might very well be true but we know it's often used as a deflection.

It's most common when you call middle school students out on their misbehavior. You know how many students, in a single class DURING the same period, accuse teachers of singling them out when they act out?

So what ends up happening? You are no longer even talking about what that student did.

Same thing with the Saudi/Israel convo.
Correct me if I'm wrong, what you're saying is because a lot of people use "what about" to deflect, it's automatically invalid even though it was used earnestly? Also, why wouldn't you point out the student is singling himself out by acting up, thus bringing it back to what the student did?

I will give anyone the time of day if I think they’re capable of comprehending what I’m telling them and responding in a meaningful way. You failed that sniff test but sure, you win.

Pin the blue ribbon upon your chest.

I am saying that while your whatsboutism might be ACCURATE (meaning whatever you are calling out might be a valid claim), using IT AFTER you have been called out for something is only used as a means to deflect from your actions (that were called out).

If everyone uses whatsboutism after being called out for their actions, we would end up never correcting behavior.

You haven’t said anything meaningful.

You made an incorrect comparison and jumped immediately to insults.

Your next post whether it’s a reply to me or not will be another worthless post you deem some unable to comprehend cuz that’s how ppl like you think.

You have nothing of value to add but sure, I win if that’s what you think matters.

I was most disappointed in bill burr doing the saudi show, honestly
someone that shunned such things
and ripped musicians that did it in the past

always talked about being above that
righteous, etc

then he does the show
and after the fact, doesnt seem to understand why he caught heat for it

I mean there does exist a scenario in which both sides can be wrong/criticized.

Dave’s “excuse” for his performance. Was just that. An excuse. I feel like he’s finally owning up to wha he’s been hinting at. A nimby capitalist.

And for me that’s cool. I’m still gonna listen to him.

The lyrics of this song shouldn't be ignored.

I think yall should be more realistic.

Just cuz you like the jokes a person tells and think you like them doesn’t mean they got the same values or principles as you.

Stop propping them up. Just cuz they’re famous and popular doesn’t make them thought leaders or leaders at all.

I think that goes both ways

I saw Van Lathan's criticisms, and I think a lot of people forget, he's a comedian.

He can be a capitalist. He can be a hypocrite. He can go to Saudia Arabia. He isn't asking for our approval or even making excuses, it's the exact opposite.

Some people seem to be offended by his comments about America, which is weird, because it's not the people you would expect.

Idk that Saudi stuff seems like some selective outrage to me.

That's why it's interesting how many journalists have been killed by Israel is ignored.

Americans are being brainwashed to hate one way of life versus another as a distraction.

Here our president is actively trying to influence and silence the media, but we're supposed to be more outraged at Dave going to Saudi Arabia for a check.

It definitely goes both ways.

Not to diss or discredit dude but I kinda sorta thought of Van as more of just a content creator. First place I saw him was on the TMZ show pitching paparazzi sourced stories. Then he became a podcaster. He is funny but I wouldn’t group him in the profession as Dave.

There’s no real official title for that area of ppl that be funny and engaging but then also want to drop knowledge and speak with moral or righteous authority.

I haven’t even heard his criticisms on this topic yet but I already don’t place him in any high regard particularly. Sometimes I agree with him, sometimes I don’t. I see him more like a guy I would chop it up with.

Ppl have that same dissonance and numbness to numbers when they become statistics.

After a certain # the amount of deaths do not have the same impact unfortunately. Ppl collectively can ignore and diminish it and move on to the next manageable tragedy.

For some reason I thought Bill didnt go. So what comedians turned it down that we know of other than Shane Gillis?

So mostly everyone accepted the “blood” money?

Did Bill Burr come out against the innocent boaters that were killed by the military industrial complex? Not saying the death of Koshigi was right…but the crown prince had a vendetta against him. The poor fishermen were in the wrong place, wrong time. And we been engaged in this unprovoked hostility with Venezuela for months.

Everything is so murky and at the same time illuminating right now. Nobody has the right to be sanctimonious. Everyone who has spoke up is doing it from a glass house or one funded by AIPAC.

I quote this all the time.
We have the most powerful person in the “free” world grifting for money and fame and producing sad comedy. Ultimately, I’m not going to get upset about Dave being paid to do comedy for a “bad” crowd.

I will say he practiced a bit of whataboutism in comparing the Saudi and Israeli regimes.

Trump took money from the Saudis for LIV golf. Saudis know most people will twerk for their money
