Dear NT Producers

First of all, how is everybody doing? Whatup FLU (best producer I;ve heard on this damn site) Whatup Time(Most under-rated composer I've heard in a while) Whatup Mez (Have you heard what this dude can do WITHOUT a midi keyboard? Its just not fair ..smh)basically was hannen to all my NT producers minus that lame Jape Beats cat…

It's been a minute since I've posted anything production wise in the music forum. There is defiantly areason for this though. I haven't made a beat in a little over 2 months… That is probably the longest break I've taken in a little over seven years. Ihave been sitting back and listening to material I created from 04 through 08 and while I am astonished by my progression I am thoroughly disappointed with myconsistency.

I feel as if I only make beats that cater either to my region or plays to my strengths (heavy synths or brassor whatever). So much so that making music isn't fun for me anymore. Its become more of a job. Well this week I started doing some research, I've beenlistening to A LOT of techno and Spanish reggae (Reggaeton). I have a few tracks in the works and im going to need some feedback pretty soon. Basically I wanted to see if anyone else who produces has decided to expand there current repertoire. If so, in what way and doyou have anything you can show us…

I don't really post on in the beat thread any more because cats are slacking with the feedback but I defiantly have been hard and work, chopping skillshave gotten at least 10 times better and I took some piano lessons and my composing is starting to come together.

Composition wise "It begins" is probably the best thing I have ever done.


I've gotten much better an interpreting samples and replaying/adding things...Id really love to hear your opinion on my %*%%, I'm moving to Toronto andgetting more serious about my music and I would love to here yours, plans, or anyone's honest opinion on my stuff.

Currently listening to your beats BOSH:

Oh yea, one thing I stopped doing a while ago was chopping.. I now try to fully recreate a sample that way I can manipulate the accapella... Its a very hardprocess but its 100x better than just sampling.

Feedback for you BOSH:
I listened to it begins.. The first thing that sticks out to me as that the beat isn't properly introduced. It just starts. You might not think much ofthis but it has a huge effect over the artist in particular. Usually the wow factor has to be there. Iintroduction is very important.
Second thing I noticed is that the beat comes across dry. When you make a beat, try to envision what you think an artist can do with it.. Where is your bridge?when are your transition effects? reverbs? panning? I did hear a breakdown but where again was the transition? Can you see this production on the radio?

Well I've never limited myself to a repertoire in the first place...I play around with a sound I like, then build on it. Sometimes it's a sample,sometimes not.

Every beat is different.

Young Chris is an R&B singer here in the A. Just so there is no confusion. I'll post the samples of what I can when I get home, some songs suchas said Crime Mob tracks are still uncleared so its almost like a gag order. The tracks are in limbo due to record label issues (I don't know why thoughsince they been dead for damn near 2 years). So when I get to the crib i'll post what I can.

I think I incorporate too many genres into each of my beats honestly. Not only that, but I let the track talk too much by layering too many sounds, if thatmakes any sense.

Plus I never put finishing touches on anything, and I'm sittin on some good %!%$. I don't have a MIDI controller either.

I started doing more electronic/composed stuff in my spare time... got a couple albums, one of them on iTunes. It's called "Skeletummy."

Now I'm trying to get everything together, started posting my older stuff on a blog, and am about to start putting up new stuff.

What I would suggest is that you just cut hip hop out of your listening routine for a bit and just listen to other stuff... I've been listening to a lot ofJazz my whole life and I think its definetely helped me become a better composer.

There is a thread in the music forum that I recommend you read through some of, it may help you get a better idea of what's involved in making beats, soyou can get an idea of what you're getting yourself into.

Nah I've never sold a beat I just make tracks and %%@! around with my boys (pause)...been doing it since like 7th grade

Ive been doin it for prolly 3 years now. havnt really done much to change they way my stuff sounds. kinda like to stay old school word to plan. im addicted tosampling like a crackhead on crack. but every now and then i get a itch to make r&b tracks. i use to post alot in the beat forums but i stopped cause ifelt i needed to take a hiatus and just work on my craft. Im working on a lil beat tape right now. when im finished ill be sharing it with yall.
