Hey NT,

This is so hard for me to do because I really hate asking for help but after 2 months of trying to find sponsorships with local small businesses, they all require 2 months to look through the proposal but the festival is in 25 days. With less than a month left until the Cannes Film Festival, I still haven't been able to raise enough funds to be able to make the trip and hopefully pitch my first feature length script that i've been working on everyday for the last 4 months. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to make connections with some of the most influential people in the film industry.

If you're wondering how I got here, here's a quick recap:

In August of 2015, 4500 teams from around the world wrote, filmed and edited a short film in 48 hours. I competed in my first 48 hour film project in Orlando and out of 27 teams, my film Wake Up was awarded Best Film, Best Actor, Best Cinematography and Best Directing. Because the film won in Orlando my team was invited to Filmapalooza in Atlanta where Wake Up competed against 127 other city-winners from around the world for the chance to be 1 of 12 films to screen at the Cannes Film Festival. In Atlanta, Wake Up made it into the top 12 and was 1 of only 5 films to represent The United States.

The Cannes Film Festival is on May 11 and so i'm really anxious and worried but I'm still hoping for the best. Thank you guys for any help and I will do everything I can to hopefully make you guys proud!

I HATE YOU GIVE ME 5 minutes of my life back

 I wish I could...

racist movie
I won't make excuses but with the time that I had and the pressure of working with only 2 actors (The two main characters) and the rest were just friends, I had to work with what I had. Race was just not on my mind while filming this but it will be from now on for my next films

Thanks for posting the film. But I can't support you perpetuating stereotypes that black men with dreads are criminals. Good luck tho.

I completely understand man and it's definitely something that I learned from the experience.

The main lead is annoying. The therapist looks like a knockoff of a knockoff Aubrey Plaza.

How were you not able to prepare yourself to gather the money necessary to go to this once in a lifetime opportunity?

that's pretty impressive for 48 hours of work, It's really hard to tell a complete story in just five minutes.

why did the two criminals have to be black though

Wait I'm confused? What is the $7,000 for? A flight and stay?

If you get to there you get to screen your film? Can you explain a bit more.

Hey Yousef, glad to see you still! i've been on since p90x lol

but yes, we just found out that we got selected last month and so everything has been very last minute. Crowdfunding was going to be my last resort because I don't have an audience to reach out to... It would cover flights first and accommodation and then we would cover all the other expenses like food and other traveling costs

and correct, we get to screen our film on May 18 6pm local time. However, the main reason I feel that I need to go is because I feel like it's the best way to make the right connections and possibly have my first feature length film turned into a reality. I've been working so hard on this and i'm panicking because I feel like this opportunity can slip away. But no matter what happens, i'll keep pushing and telling stories and hopefully one day work with you!

Ay that means a lot to me man. It was REALLY tough.

and I know man....it was such a dumb mistake on my part and I regret to this day... I honestly didn't even notice until after the screening and people were staring at me asking the same thing. If I could go back in time I would not have done that but I learned lol

btw man, congrats on the Tyler Perry film! to be honest...seeing people like you succeed is what drives me everyday. I watch your vlogs and see how tough it is but I see you continuing to succeed. Respect!

Good luck fam. The opening shot was was dope!. I liked what you were able to put together in such a short time.

The editing was crisp too.

If you don't make it this year to Cannes, hopefully you can budget for it next year .

Congrats on the selection too

Well we just got invited last month and so my first plan was to reach out to local businesses and so I set up a bunch of meetings but they never got anywhere. Also, what I do for a living is creating commercials/documentaries for people/companies and so it's not the most stable job

i'm trying my best on that end as well to get some jobs but it's been tough and i'm panicking a bit

When you say your business meeting "never got anywhere", how were pitching this scenario as an investment in you and your ability as a film maker or as them just giving you the money that you need either as a loan or gift?

Because that may play a role in why they never went any where for you?

No shame in Kickstarter, it's actually what you're doing in this thread. Nice film, nice concept. I was impressed. If you create a Kickstarter I can throw you some funds.

I was definitely pitching it to benefit them and as an investment but most required 2 months to go through the "right people" and I didn't want to risk waiting all the way until Cannes to hear get their replies

I was literally panicking at 3am because to be honest...

SHORT FILM SPOILER: ( i need to learn how to do spoilers lol)

I was so focused on the story and how I came up with it. so it was about 4 hours of brainstorming until I remembered my cousin who has been in a coma for 8 years now and I always wondered what goes through her brain since she still has brain activity. So my take on it is that people in a coma replay their last few moments in some way and that's how I came up with the story and so my mind was so focused on making sure that I was able to portray this idea. It's such a convoluted story and fortunately it communicated somewhat well
