Is it hard meeting people and making new friends at first?
Lol it's a stupid question, but I thought about it the other day, and the way it's worked for me is this:
-Meet people in elementary school
-Get your crew by middle school
- Meet more people through your crew and friends in hs
I just think it'll be awkward being around 10k people that i don't even know.
Also, how difficult is it freshmen year? Is a 4.0 possible or is that a major reach?

why, are your parents loaded?
from what i've seen, colleges only make you pay full-pay if you are in the highest income bracket.

it depends on the college... i know a girl who committed to one school, but immediately after May 1 she changed her mind, so she called the 2nd school up andthey said they know picking a college is a hard decision and that they would give her a break to let her in.
so just call and talk to someone on the phone in person... somehow, i doubt they'd say "no, we don't want your money"

Where are you from? Where do you plan to go next year?
If you're going to a school that is especially out of state or miles away in state from your preferred surroundings then yes you're going to have tomeet new people and make new friends. The school where I'm at is in a city across the Mississippi River (Memphis) and it's a small Lasallian Catholicschool of 2,000 + students. There were like several people from my hometown that are there, but they were from the Catholic high school next to the HS Igraduated from. I had to get used talking to people from the Memphs area as well as those people from other states. So yeah get used to meeting new people andtry creating friendships with them at the dorms and classes as well as freshman orientation.
For freshmen year, it shouldn't be that hard, depending on how much effort you put in. I was pretty much a slacker my first year though and got 2.6'sboth semesters.
Have fun next year anyway.
edit: Go sign up and join clubs that best fit your interests as a student. I'm a business major and I'm a member of Delta Sigma Pi. I can prettymuch say it's the best club I've ever been in my entire academic life (counting HS). As a DSP member I get to fundraise for the fraternity as well asSt. Jude Hospital, set up intramural activities, get it touch with former alumni, and attend provincial conference and LEAD school.

To those worry about making new friends, many campuses have clubs set up for this purpose. It' pretty cool because you get to talk to other students whoare just like you so you don't feel left out. Some of the people you met can essentially become really good friends later on.

Well, I've decided to attend community college to save some money..the biggest thing that worries me is the social life..I was guessing that I could stillhave a good time if I was active and made the most of it...so I was wondering how life is for the community college student? Also how is life for a transferstudent?

Mine aren't and I didn't get a cent of financial aid at the university that gives the most aid out its students.

It kind of sucks for upper middle class people when it comes to financial aid. Basically you won't be eligible for aid, but you're not loaded enough tobe able to pay it straight up and willl need a butt load of loans. I have a friend who is gonna be at Notre Dame next year, but they only offer need-based aidand not merit scholarships even though he was ELC and got lots of merit scholarships everywhere else. It really just depends where you are going.
I will be at a public university in the fall with a very low amount of loans by the time I'm done. Being disadvantaged has its perks
Only thing I'm afraid of is how difficult my school will be and because I'm contemplating med school GPA is all that matters.

GWU? daamn.. i've heard about the OD tuition at that school.
what i've found is that there are only like 10-20 schools in the entire country that are on point with financial aid, and for the most part, those are the10-20 hardest schools to get into. like Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Duke, and so on.
for people who can't get into those elite schools, the other good private schools in their range like GW, Notre Dame, Boston College, Wake Forest, Syracusetype schools always OD on tuition.
nowadays, the best bet for a lot of good middle-class students is to opt for their cheaper state school Honors program. for example, Penn State'sSchreyer's Honors program, which has higher average GPAs and SATs than Harvard. and you get in-state tuition. great education, but for a fraction of thecost.

Im almost done with my senior year, and my loans are looking real good.
Only about 15k in debt with a year to go.

the worst part about the situation is that they cut need based financial aid a good amount to. unless you are like dirt poor - lower middle classGW won't give you any money. they started giving more merit based because the President wants to increase GW's rankings and attract "smarter"students since they slightly fell off under the current one, President Knapp. I know kids whose parents are living in mansions on Long Island and the kids aredriving Bimmers, Benzes, Ranges and getting almost full rides coming here. The amount of merit scholars is not even that high either. I really like it here butthis place is starting to disgust me with the current way things are run. I can now understand how universities and colleges are businesses looking to makemoney.

I remember there was an Incoming College Freshman thread that was posted 2 years back, and was bumped around the august/sept of last year
It had alot of great info about moving in..Drinking, all types of %+%* to bring.not bring. If yall can find that and bump it again, that would clear up allthese loose threads
