when two players are comparable, then yes you can bring rings into the conversation...derrick fisher and lebron are no where near on the same level, so you cannot compare the two AT ALL...however, you can compare derrick fisher to mark jackson and you can say that derrick fisher is better because he has more rings

seven years into his career, kobe had 3 rings...lebron has 0 seven years in...and for all you guys that are gonna say that kobe got his 3 rings thanks to shaq, please be quiet...because if you think shaq would've won any of those without kobe then your

only players without rings say that rings don't matter
Kobe wouldn't have those rings without Shaq. Shaq wouldn't have had them without Kobe.

He's had a lot more help than LeBron in his career; just look at the teams Kobe has now and during the Shaq years. LeBron still has a long way to go so it's yet to be seen.
Shaq would have won a championship with alot of different teams during his prime, he was that dominant. Dude averaged like 30 points and 20 rebounds for a whole playoff series.

i feel like whenever people bring in rings into the argument for kobe, it means they already know lbj>kobe. just tell your friend kobe has more skill, makes more game winners (even though he takes every last shot)...therefore hes better...

Lebron is currently the most TALENTED player in the league. and if the playoffs didnt exist he'd definitely be the best player in the league as well. but unfortunately for him...

There are many factors that determine who is better: rings included. You can make the argument that all things being equal, championships become the deciding factor. All things not equal, are a player's shortcomings made up for by their ability to help a team win a championship. Most people seem to think that Bill Russell was better than Wilt Chamberlain, but statistically Wilt was much better. Bill is perceived to be better solely because he took the steps necessary to win a championship. Which after all, is the goal of playing basketball...

it's not really lebron's fault that his organization never put any good players around him

One word: HYPE

That what is with Lebron and it's mainly because of ESPN the rest of the media on his nuts since he was a sophomore in high school.

Yeah he puts great stats & #'s every season like a near triple double every game. But then you get guys like John Hollinger who will write like 50 articles a year with stats galore hyping him up trying to convince us he's the best in the league right now.

NBA Legends past & present, coaches around the league, GM's, even David Stern all know and say who the best in the game is and it isn't Lebron James.

I'm not saying he quit on his team because he didn't but if he did he only learned to do that from the former best player in the league.

FTR, I am incredibly partial to Carles Tevez's opinion on this matter.

well you could say Randy Brown also has more rings but it is more to it than that...Lebron is more exciting stat stuffer, but Kobe is a proven winner, a closer, a killer....I respect both players but Kobe has won rings and LeBron has not....LeBron could be argued to have more talent than Kobe coming outta high school but he also had a team at his disposal to display that talent whereas Kobe was limited im what he could do. LeBron was given a team to run as the "savior" and Kobe was added as a piece to go along with Shaq, Nick Van Exel, Eddie Jones and Derek Fisher.

We will never know but Kobe coulda done just as much as LeBron if the Lakers were his team from the jump...hell, he coulda done less. The bottom line is that Kobe had rings...RINGS MEANING MORE THAN ONE, at the same time that Lebron at this seven year point in his career.

Kobe wasn't just a add on player when Jerry West traded Vlade Divac for him.

Kobe & Shaq both came at the same time in 96 and Jerry West even knew back then after he did Kobe's private work out before the draft that Kobe was a future franchise player. Kobe just came to a stacked team because the Lakers sucked in the mid 90's, drafted Eddie Jones in the top 10 in the draft and Jerry West got lucky and got a steal in the 2nd round with Nick Van Exel.

when comparing superstars with each other, its ok to bring up the ring argument. and if they try to bring up 'well mark madsen won 3 rings too' you discount it by saying you're not comparing role player achievements, you're comparing superstars.

you can't not bring it up. would jordan be considered the GOAT if he NEVER won a ring? of course its part of the argument. but no one ever says 'well horry has 7 rings so does that make him better?' its not even in the same argument. you compare other players that are on the same level. you could compare hakeem and ewing, and say hakeems rings put him over the top (even without the rings he'd win, but still).

Because if you have 4 rings as a role-player you don't qualify in conversation. However, once you move into Hall Of Fame caliber players then the amount of championships they won is a LARGE factor...

LOL@ all these media now thinking kobe is better than lebron just because lakers have advanced further than the Cavs.

this isn't individual event.

playoffs is all done by 12 player roster.

now go look at laker roster compared to cleveland roster.

kobe is very lucky that he has such great supporting casts around him.

Put kobe in Cleveland, he ain't going no where, and NOBODY would be running their mouth like kobe is the best in the world.

i be like shut your asss up.

It's crazy when Kobe's team's weren't winning, everyone was saying how he wasn't doing anything to make his supporting cast better.

On the flip side to that when Lebron's team loses, all the blame falls on his 'garbage" supporting cast... even though that same same supporting cast helped the Cavs to back to back 60+ win seasons and back to back number 1 seeds.

this

thats why i ignore idiots who use Bron's supporting cast as an excuse.
Its all just ****** blabber to avoid the fact that Bron is not that guy..... yet.

anyway... the Rings arguement is only valid because Kobe is STILL winning rings... if Kobe was retired and gone, then yea you could say Bron is better, if Kobe completely falls off then yea you can say Bron is better.....
but anybody who watching the game, knows Kobe is > Lebron.... thats a no brainer

Kobe's basketball game > Lebrons game, thats almost undeniable.

This.

The way I look at it is that Kobe Bryant has a more skill than LeBron and I don't know how anyone can argue that.  Kobe's midrange/3pt shooting % are better and he has a complete post game.  He also has that intangible "killer instinct."  I can't remember a time LeBron has willed his team to victory other than his 48 point performance against Detroit.

The only thing I'd give LeBron an edge in is court vision.  Some of the passes he throws are just
eek.gif
but Kobe still puts up numbers in the assists category because of his basketball IQ and understanding of Phil Jackson's triangle offense  (speaking of coaches, I think Mike Brown has been very detrimental to LeBron's career but that's another topic).

What Kobe doesn't have is the physical attributes that LeBron possesses.  James combination of strength and speed give him a huge advantage on an NBA court in all aspects of the game.

it's easier to carry a week team through a season than the playoff's because you're not playing the same team over and over again. Yea game tapes help you to understand the other team, but if you're not seeing them every night you can easily forget.

Boston adjusted through out the series and exposed the Cavs for what they are, Lebron & Co.

Kobe is the better finisher and jump shooter. I'll give him that. If Lebron would spend the summer shooting jump shots, it's a wrap. Look at the stats from year 1 to year 7 for both players. Lebron has the better stats. He's the better team player.

When Kobe doesn't have a decent big and one other star, he loses in the First round to Phoenix if he even makes the playoffs. Kobe has the luxury of being able to "cruise" through a game and bring it on at the end to close out. Lebron has to be on beast mode all game.

Right now its:

MJ
Kobe
Lebron

If Lebron manages to get back to the finals and never lose in the finals again, he'll surpass kobe on that list. MJ never lost in the finals so he's #1.

and just for the record kobe will never be better than jordan just for the fact that jordan never lost in a championship
